Not only is it possible as you call it, but development now is paid more attention to low leveling optimizations, and

expect rather good results in WMP 12 soon.

"Good results" in what and compared to what...? The player is what it is, and the codecs are already hardware accelerated. What more is there to "low leveling optimize?"

And what has changed in the DWM and themeing service?

I trust you can easily answer these questions.

As for the icons, I think it's a mistake to believe that Microsoft wants it to look very different from Vista.

People are forgetting that a lot of vista icons were changed right before release. Icons and wallpapers are probably last on the list of things to change. Of course they're going to change them, it looks absolutely ridiculous having these light blue/orange icons and then next to them these hard contrasting dark blue/green icons. The icons that changed now were probably done to see how it would look, and they'll change the rest of them around the end.

+Yes

And "Feature complete" means they're done adding features, not UI elements.

Compared to Usage/resource values in 7100 build.

Windows Media Foundation behind the scene is what gets lot of optimization, and this goes to codecs.

Low Level optimizing is a difficult job but means that pieces of code are re-written tighter, even in different structure, but in kernel's low level functions so the benefit goes through all layers, APIs, etc.

There have been fixes to DWM about the Windows borders and improovements to Theming Machine.

Cannot say more as I don't have this build personally.

Feature complete is not what some think dead-end. Feature Complete is the Superbar, but changes ( who will be ) is not feature.

API Changes won't be, but of course all these might happen soon as it is discussed to be released in tight circle a so called RC refresh containing all these improovements.

I would like to add, that there have been since RC lots, really lots of fixes. The work done is remarkable.

Hope I helped.

It's not impossible that they'll be changed but what I find absurd is your absolute certainty that it will happen. Personally I'd like to see many changes, especially to the Orb, but it seems very late in development to be making such changes. I mean, the icon that appears next to the Open button for executables should have been updated immediately but it's still showing a horrible icon from back in the XP days. Still, I'm hopeful Microsoft has been holding back icons / wallpapers / sounds - content that is not related to the functionality of the operating system - that were withheld to keep mystique.

It's possible. Take a look at the control panel icon; is Microsoft just playing around with this?

Not really, your whole reply is mostly inane rambling.

Okay, won't talk anymore.

Maybe that will confuse you less.

period.

manosdoc, what you say does make sense, people here are so quick to judge.. MS should change the icons. It looks haft-ass having some windows 7 and vista icons together. It just does'nt look right IMO.

Visual Changes include icons, and this is not a new feature, so there will be some changes, not something radical though as I am told.

Lots of Icons are already though changed, even slightly to Vista Ones.

Maybe they should, but inconsistency is one of Microsoft's trademarks. It's been that way in all versions of Windows, I don't know why people are hoping for a miracle this time around.

The control panel in Vista was really bad, with some things showing in Explorer and some things opening in a dialog box, seemingly completely arbitrary. It's still not quite there in 7, but it's improved somewhat.

I think that's taking things a bit too far, though it is true that some aspects get overlooked. For instance, the screensaver options are still in the style of 9x/XP and it's completely hit or miss as to whether a Control Panel control will use the same window or a separate one. However, usability is still above that of any other operating system.

I don't think they will, but I would really like them to, it makes the UI that much more un-Vista-like lol.

(BTW. I do like Vista but probably most people are attracted to a new look)
