+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 31, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted May 31, 2009 Just click the link, then click on the Microsoft Booth. It then shows the featured games, which are: Halo 3: ODST, Alan Wake, and Forza Motorsport 3. Earlier IGN talked about 3 games from Microsoft at E3 that they were going to showcase. One was a game announced earlier (Halo 3: ODST) and the other 2 were unannounced. (Forza 3 and Alan Wake) Microsoft still considers Alan Wake to be unannounced. (Based on the latest 1up podcast) So let the speculation begin! Source: http://n4g.com/events_e32009/News-336702.aspx Can't believe no one posted this yet, you guys suck. Alan Wake better be there, screw some of those staff predictions over as well :p

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 31, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2009 I called it baby :p Will Alan Wake feature at E3 this year?Andrew Gallacher (drunknmunky): I think they'll definitely show it this year. They have to, or people will really begin to lose interest and it'll go the same way as Duke Nukem Forever. Forza 3 was a given after the French leak a few weeks ago. Covered it at the time. Unrealistic
I've only been waiting on this game since before the 360 shipped. It's about god damn time.
George P Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted May 31, 2009 You know, when Rare takes this long good things happen imo. Besides they've got the best MGS people working with them to push the 360 as far as they can. I still remember the original tech demo or whatever they called it, 2 years ago? That showed it using all 4 cores on a intel core 2 quad. Which, if still the case, makes it one of a kind as far as I know? Most games barely use 2 cores on the PC side. Rare aren't making any of these games, Remedy is the devs you're after for Alan Wake ;) Rare have made Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts and Viva Pinata. Sethos
Well, Forza 3 was pretty obvious. Will be nice to see Alan Wake again.

Was it Remedy? I guess I got my R's mixed up. I was pretty sure Alan Wake was a MS first party game.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 31, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2009 MGS are publishing it, which is why it's exclusive to 360/GFW.

Yeah but ti's not first party, I was thrown off, it's been so long since 2006 heh. 2nd party then, since MGS is the publisher.
+Mystic MVC Posted May 31, 2009 MVC Share Posted May 31, 2009 Just got up and haven't checked my news sites yet so this is great to hear. Definitely want to see where they have taken the series.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 31, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2009 I'm not exactly sure how 2nd party works. Doesn't it depend on who owns the rights? i.e PGR series is 1st party because MS own the rights, but Bizarre created the game. Perhaps Alan Wake is the same? A company that is closely tied to a console manufacturer (or occasionally a publisher) is known as a second-party developer. Apparently is the distinction. I wouldn't say Remedy are "closey tied", so I guess it may be 1st party.
Eric Veteran Posted May 31, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2009 The way I've always understood was: 1st party = Produced in-house 2nd party = Produced internally, commissioned externally 3rd party = Externally produced entirely, licensed by production house Any way, Alan Wake sounded intriguing when it was announced. Hopefully it still is. :)
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 31, 2009 The general consensus behind 2nd party basically means the game is exclusive to the publisher. The publisher has the rights to do what they want with the title within contract. The developers aren't, just the franchise that the publishers are putting out. The developers can go create another game for any platform they want, they aren't bound to being 1st party and doing everything exclusive for one company. When the publishers are MS or Sony or Nintendo it basically means the game ain't going anywhere but their platform for obvious reasons. If the publishers for Remedy were EA, you'd have Alan Wake on your mobile.

Digitalx
Dw guys, alan wake is a good time/space filling idea. We'll be reacting the same in 2014 - E3 features Alan Wake. It really must be awesome working for remedy atm doing bugger all on it but mulling around making cool videos every now and then on it..
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 31, 2009 But see that's where you're wrong.Just look at Ninja Gaiden 2 for example. That's happened due to Itagaki (sp?) leaving and all the rest of the drama surrounding the company, there will be clauses in the contract for such large upheavals. Itagaki himself said no NG2 for the PS3 and it was never announced till all the **** went down.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 31, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted May 31, 2009 Ok, Banjo-Kazooie then :p There's lots of examples. ? Microsoft bought Rare and therefore all the rights to their games I believe. Or possibly had to ask Nintendos permission, remember Nintendo blocking the release of Goldeneye? They might have said okay to Banjoo. It's probably not as clear cut as you publish you maintain exclusivity forever, however the main contract behind publishing is exclusivity, it's just a case of will anything that happens in the future break that contract. Or sometimes it may just be timed exclusivity through you publishing, then later the game is allowed to be published by someone else on other platforms. Think about Sony with Ghostbusters, they clearly aren't publishing it on the 360/Wii.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 31, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2009 Well that's what I mean, Nintendo were publishers of BK and the game still went to another platform. There is ways around it clearly just like NG2 and BK.
Digitalx
buying game developers/companies doesn't always grant automatic rights to all current or past titles it's only if it's included in the contract/deal. There's also out sorced development used by publishers on multiple platforms less common in PC games but prevelant in consoles specially when it comes to hand helds nintended and microsoft/sony development.
