Resolution

When I resart my computer the resolution goes back to 600x800. what gives

What kind of video card do you have? This will help a lot.

If its nVidia check the control panel and see if theres an auto-detect mode for your monitor. This could be resetting it.

Try updating your video drivers.

More info please.

The video card and or driver could be bad, there could be something starting up thats changing the resolution. Are you running XP, 2000, 98?. When was the last time that you used this computer? Did you change anything recently? Can you change the resolution and run it fine until you restart? Does the laptop have a vga output for another monitor?

Uninstall the current drivers and reboot. See if windows will detect a driver automatically and see if that works. If not, download and re-install the driver after this.

Depending on what laptop it is, see if it has another output for video. (Ex: On dell its FN+F5 to output to external video..) Hit this and see if it fixes your issue. It could be stuck trying to switch to an external source.

Boot into safe mode and see if you get a better resolution. Reboot into normal mode.

Check the bios for any weird video settings. *There shouldnt be anything in there, but ya never know*

?? If you have nothing on the laptop that you need, you could re-install windows if none of this works. Last resort.
