Avlor
DA, For several days already my 7127 setup is driving me crazy on Sony VAIO SZ. For no particular reason from time to time CPU clock goes down to 240Mhz (!!!), which apparently results in an experience similar to that on the vid that was circulating around here. The proper behaviour (that was observed in XP and previous builds up to 7100) is to throttle down to 1Ghz and boost the clock if necessary, but now it seems to get stuck in those 240 or 360Mhz and only a hard reset can end its suffering for the time being. When I'm patient enough to wait until power management utility loads and switch to PowerManagement Off, it still refuses to raise the multiplier. Any idea why that happens or how to get rid of that? Reinstalling power management utility didn't help, tried that one already.

Ambroos
You can turn your DVD drive and sound off from Device manager as far as I remember...
br0adband
If you're not going to let the OS do its job, why bother running Windows 7 in the first place. It can handle the power management more effectively than any old crap Sony throws in and requires you to install. Why people can't figure this out sometimes... I swear, I'll never figure it out. Disable devices in Device Manager if necessary (doesn't necessarily actually turn off the juice going to the device and won't really do much for battery life). The only true way to disable a device like an optical drive is remove it but not all laptops offer that functionality. If it's attached to the machine, it's drawing power, period. Sound cards/chips, same principle...
Avlor
The whole point of this Sony utility is to make device go OFF, off like it isn't there at all, plugged out or whatever. The OS cannot see it, you can't address it in any way.. That looks like true disabling. Disabling it in the device manager does no good for power consumption, while Sony thing helps to save battery. Strangely enough the whole throttling issue appeared only in 7127. Will I'm too lazy to do a reinstall right now to check for faulty install, so I guess I'll have to live with it until the rumoured 7200 leaks
