Rickkins
Absolute stupidest bullploppy I've ever seen. There's gotta be a way to opt out if the nonsense... Oh, and I should note; if you believe it's better that way...that's fine. But I'm not interested in your opinion. I just wanna find a way to turn that nonsense off. That is all. Riffz
what are you talking about? After pressing the shutdown button with applications open, it will ask you if you want to shut down as you may lose some work. I agree with him, it annoys me to have to click two more buttons after the shutdown button to have the thing go down.
Rickkins
You press power button with programs open, you have to make two more freakin click to off the damned computer.

Rickkins
Change for change sake...as usual. There's gotta be a way to turn that **** off though.... Panda X
i didn't know it did that, why did they change it? It's been in since Vista. It times out, you don't have to press two buttons. If the app is requesting attention (something new, didn't save, etc) it asks "Oh something changed you may want to look at, if not, click here or wait"

When I click shut down with apps running, it doesn't ask me anything about a force quit. It just closes them, and shuts down. .
Stetson
I think it only does this with apps that purposefully halt on being closed. Programs that don't present a dialog when you try to close them won't cause that screen to show up IIRC. PS: I'm kinda glad it does this, especially with programs that have an open file that hasn't been saved. In XP you had a dialog to go through after clicking the shutdown button. In Vista/7, if you accidentally click the shutdown button and no apps protest your computer begins shutting down instantly, no dialog at all. This is definitely NOT change for change sake. It's been there since Vista and only kicks in when either an application takes too long to close or needs your attention to save an saved document. If you don't like it, then either start saving your documents, find less buggy applications to use, or quityerbitchin'.
Stetson
Also, this existed in XP, it just took a slightly different form: So its not really a new concept.
Calum Veteran Posted June 1, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 1, 2009 I love this feature and it definately isn't "change for change's sake"; however, for some reason, it comes up with that screen when I have only my gadgets on the desktop and avast! running - it never did this when I used Windows Vista. I don't understand why? Is it because it is still a development build and it'll be likely fixed in RTM? It could be, but if others don't have this problem, I am starting to suspect it is either something on my end or a problem with avast! and its Windows 7 compatibility. lee31
This only happens when certain programs are open and like someone else said it times out and closes the programs itself and continues to shutdown within a few seconds without you having to click a thing. If you're waiting forever then it's mostly likely the program itself slowly the process down but that's very rare. Majority of the time you can shutdown as normal with most programs open. Just a few need a forced shutdown especially dvd burning software. The longest I've had the forced shutdown message on my screen is 3 seconds and that was with imgburn open and I didn't have to click a thing. Rickkins
Crap. Turns out it was an issue on my end. Installed a new extension(version) for my browser(Seamonkey), and it was requiring a click in a dialog box. So, turns out that this is not a 7 issue after all....oops. DaveJukes
At least you've got the balls to admit it was a mistake on your part. I've had it happen here and it was live messenger or live sync not quitting quickly enough that caused it.

Quillz
Also, this existed in XP, it just took a slightly different form: So its not really a new concept. Exactly. Since Vista, all Microsoft did was create a more useful, fullscreen version of the "feature." And I can confirm that it DOES go away on its own, if a program is simply taking too long to close, it times out after about 30 seconds or so, often quicker than that. This is hardly anything to complain about. It's complaining for the sake of complaining.
rakeshishere
Can someone post a screenshot of how this feature (not an annoyance/bug) is implemented in Vista or 7. I really want to see it as i haven't experienced it yet

Calum Veteran Posted June 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 4, 2009 Simple answer: Close your applications before you shut down. But what I'd like to know is why didn't we have to close our gadgets down before shutting down in Windows Vista? Why do we have to now? Once I have closed all of my programs, I don't expect to have to go into the 'Processes' tab of the task manager just to close down 'sidebar.exe' everytime I shut down my computer. Unless we can just click 'x' on every gadget, but that's still an inconvenience. I never had to do any of this in Windows Vista. In Vista, I only had this popup when I had an actual program open in the taskbar, not something running in the background like some gadgets.
