Darksoft
Hello all... A friend of mine has a MacBook Pro.. it seems like an older model. Anyways, its screen is cracked and I think this might be relevant to the issue that the computer is having. Sometimes the computer freezes and you have to do a hard shutdown. When you turn it back on, you get a grey screen with an error in various languages asking you to restart. I googled mac boot options to see what's up, and I found out that if I pressed the option key, and selected the installation manually, I get to see the desktop fine. I don't understand why this is. I tried helping her before and this is what I did: Update to latest version of os x 10.5.7 Repaired permissions Checked the Hard disk for errors And other things that were in a front page post on how to keep os x clean. (thanks to the author) anyways, os x says that X is hanging and the following is the report. Eric Veteran Posted June 1, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 1, 2009 The backtrace shows an Nvidia driver component. Have you tried starting in safe mode?
Darksoft
I don't know much about Macs and OS X in general.. my apologies. What do I do when I boot in safe mode? Because if I hold the Option key and select the drive to boot, i can get into the desktop and work. In fact, I made the original post and this post on the laptop. It's very wierd. Subject Delta
If this is an nVidia problem, your friend may have one of the units that had potentially faulty graphics cards.
