E3 2009: I've Played Natal and it Works

Recommended Posts

You know, using the NXE with motion hand controls and voice commands is nice. They don't have to make it talk to you though, that would get annoying (unless the voice is pretty sexy, then maybe...).

Anyways, if all you're going to do is browse the menus or play a video, you don't need to use a controller at all. So why bother if you can just tell it to do what you want.

Does anybody know if Natal works even when the lights in the room are turned off?
Yes, the secondary camera is infrared and it has an infrared "light" source, this is one of the keys to making it work properly for human movement and facial recognition.

Don't expect it to be able to scan in colors and images in a dark room though.

Someone's thought of how cool that would be though ;)

Watch the Ruse Trailer (third video in the list).

You're right, when I saw that trailer at the conference I thought "it's a surface!". It made Ruse look even cooler than it probably is.

Probably because the computer, camera, projector, installation, and software cost about $15,000, which is high even for a gaming rig.

I know it's expensive, I'm just saying that MS has these different multitouch demos for it, why not toss in a nice RTS for kicks?

Closing down Ensemble might have something to do with it. Beyond that, I have no idea.

You would think that at $12,500 they could put in a Dune II clone instead of solitaire or something (disclaimer, I have no idea if solitaire ships with Surface).

Looks like someone at E3 thought of the same thing, there is another post showing Ruse running an a surface and it looks great.
