Windows 7 Pricing

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know there isn't a price for Windows 7 yet, but...

How much do you think is going to cost? (obiously different costs for Ultimate, Business, etc..)

I'm hoping that Professional (the version most people will likely end up using) costs no more than $299 for a retail copy, which would mean an OEM copy should be able half that, a reasonable $199 or so.

Now I know a true tech builds his own computer

But with the price of Windows, and then the price of new computers. I'm thinking new computer with OEM Windows 7 (Restore disc) is not all that bad

ie A new computer that comes with Windows 7 (eventually) is a lot cheaper than a built computer, and then purchasing Windows 7.

That's my feelings now, and I have changed since the XP (not OEM) days.

It's going to cost me $299. That's what I plan on paying in October to subscribe to MAPS and have access to all the Win7 licenses I want (plus other MS products).

half of $299 is $149.50

double of $199 is $398.00

I think you need to work on your math there my friend.

I think a pricepoint of $150 is fair. a brand new system with it preinstalled wont be over $500....

I think I won't guess on the price, and wait for the annoucement of the cost instead. :)

I *hope* it will be the same price as Vista, or cheaper.

WHAT?

I can read normal size font you know ;)

Here's an interesting read on the likely cost: http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/windows-7...t/othersoftware

200 bucks for the most limited, ****ty version of windows 7??? Wow..... If they charge that, they're idiots. I mean this sku is supposed to be reserved for computers in 3rd world countries and stuff... it should be way cheaper than that. like 100 bucks.

Honestly, pretty much all those prices are insane. Chop at least 50 bucks off each sku and i'd consider buying it... Otherwise..... no.

I think that Microsoft learned some pretty valuable lessons with Vista, and I honestly don't think they'll cross the $249 point with Ultimate - and I really think they'd be better suited topping out at $199 for Ultimate, $149-169 for Professional, and Home Premium at $129 or less.

If they don't, and if they screw the pooch again with the somewhat ridiculous pricing they chose on Vista, it's going to hurt them.

So far, they've been making all the right moves with respect to Windows 7 - the public so far doesn't have much of anything negative to say about it (aside from "It's what Vista should have been" which is ignorant and stupid in the first place), and all us enthusiasts rave about it constantly (those of us with brains, that is), so I seriously hope they don't get into it with that doggie and shoot themselves in the proverbial foot.

$129 for HP, $149-169 for Professional, $199 and perhaps an absolute max of $249 for Ultimate IF they must charge more, but anything more on any of 'em... bleh.

Come on, Microsoft... you're on a roll, don't blow it.

Starter: 79.99.

Home Premium: 149.99

Professional: 199.99

Ultimate: 299.99

It will never be too cheap to complain about. I also plan on getting a free copy compliments of Microsoft in a few months thanks to the Feedback Program.
