ToneKnee
So much for wanting to wait until RTM after installing 7127. This will surely be the last install I will make because RC2 has to have enough improvements to warrant compiling it even after Microsoft initially indicated it planned to have only one RC. IT's ! NOT! RC2!
Inctye
IT's ! NOT! RC2! Wow, did I really deserve that? My mistake for calling it RC2. But if it is not RC2, then what is it? MS doesn't start a new string of builds just for the sake of it.

Eric Veteran Posted June 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 3, 2009 It's an internal QA build designed to test a fix for a problem that made the RC not RTM-ready.

ToneKnee
It's not RC2, it's not NT 7.0. Windows 8 will most likely be NT 7.0.

Livin in a box
Why is it that these builds that people are saying in Windows 8 say Windows 7 on them? It makes no sense?
ToneKnee
Why is it that these builds that people are saying in Windows 8 say Windows 7 on them? It makes no sense? No doubt Windows 8 is in development, but it'll look exactly like Windows 7, after all, Windows 7 is still being developed, and any developments need to be reflected in Windows 8. Or is that just to confuse everybody?
Ambroos
Not yet actually. First Vista builds were also called Windows XP actually. They've just opened the Windows 8 branch probably, doesn't mean they are actually changing things in that branch already. Probably just a mirror branch right now. code.kliu.org
About the RC2, It will be fully optimized, feature complete, untagged and stripped, with beta exception handlers out ( Used now the System error Reporter ) IOW, an escrow build? BTW, some interesting info...

They're nowhere near it, so why rename a build that?
Gabe3
is 7201 the build people were waiting for to leak june 11th or am I missing something?
Ambroos
7200 (or the IDS if you want to call it that way) is an INTERNAL release that's being sent to hardware manufacturers etc for them to complete their drivers etc. It's another step further in the code freezing. After the IDS as far as I know there will be nothing but pure bugfixes. No more quick improvements, no more changes in this or in that. Only really small bugfixes 'till it's a clean release. That is what 7200 is. And responding to the post above me again, they created a Win 8 branch right now because probably it has no use for them to start from the totally bug-free build of 7. They're just branching off right now because 7 is very near completion. It's not a rename, it's just a copy of the same code that they will start working on with all the Windows 8 concepts and whatever else they want to try. Microsoft's a big company, they have to do a lot more before releasing an OS that any other company does. is 7201 the build people were waiting for to leak june 11th or am I missing something? Yes, since 7201 is probably almost identical to 7200 that was supposed to leak.
tra
Don't worry, it's real. Then why is the us build 7201 still 6.1 and the japanese 7201 7.0?
