Changes in build 7201?

Recommended Posts

Somebody requested a independant thread for changes, so i figured i'd make it. Anyone have the build and care to share what's new, if anything? Let's compare it to 7100.

If you guys are going to talk about changes / additions / fixes / bugs then please also mention which Windows 7 version you are comparing with.

I've heard several people now saying that it runs faster... I'll see for myself soon.

everybody always says it runs faster than the last build :p

I've got it up on an old test machine with a Sempron 3000+ and 1 gig of DDR400 with a SATA 1.5 drive. 7100 on that machine felt right on par with Vista SP2 but this build seems smoking fast right from the beginning (relative to the hardware). It'll be interesting to see if it improves even more after indexing and superfetch run a while. The networking fiasco remains and I guess they want to force everyone to upgrade all their machines to 7 to use homegroups which I've hated from the beginning. That's a shame because I refuse to switch my linux machines and my Mac to Windows. That's the 32 bit build by the way. I have too much to backup on here before installing the 64 bit version. Other than speed, I haven't noticed any real changes besides the numbers on the watermark.

Some of the noticeable changes ppl reported so far:

1) Smaller file size installer

2) Faster & smoothier

3) Some new features (options) added in windows Media Center

will update more if found. :D

It's almost always just the placebo effect of a fresh tidy install. It drives me up the wall how people always post that it's "snappier" without really backing it up with any facts.

they say its approx. 5-15% faster

Yup, once you add up all the "faster" claims, 7 is actually 3000% faster than Vista and might even run without a computer at all.

Can everyone else jsut stop posting b/s like "oh, no idea" "oh installing now", etc this is about changes ONLY, not on what you plan to do or what you want.

Changes only or gtfo. I am sick of 30 pages "changelog" threads with no changes reported

That's why I posted my findings. I've never once noticed the perceived speed over Vista that everyone else seems to notice. This one really is faster, but it may just be better support for the old hardware is all. I have no proof, but I've been through every build and this is the only one I've felt run faster.

3000% is some claim figure! I can say that vista runs slow on my home PC, but I don't think I could improve it by a margin of 3000%.

On the plus side, I love the leaks every week. it shows just how quickly the Windows team is actually putting the OS together. It was only last week that 7137 was leaked, and now we're into the 72xx numbers. Even if it's only small revisions, shows they have been beavering away non stop with 68 other build number passing in 7 days. At this rate, the final build number will be 7500!

Well, found a new bug within 20 seconds, WMP opening up another Taskbar Icon when already pinned but it took about a second to fix.

Apart from that, feels nice, as fast as 7127 at least which is my current favourite build.

You know it's just an arbitrary number they can change? They don't do 10 builds a day.

They jumped from build 7141 to 7200/7225 (depending on branch) in the Windows 7 builds compiled on May 29.

well i think RTM is gonna b 7200..

i think they have reserved it..

and onwards build 113x they are gona fix bugs..

till they are satisfied.

i just think they branched this ahead 7200 for some other purpose

......

wat say??

and i say that because...

there is no need to do 200 builds when u arent gonna change anything.. just fix bugs..

and i think bug fixing will we well done within 80 90 builds.. max!:...

So who thinks the final build will probably be either 7300 or 7400 *Sits here hoping for a rounded number*

Most likely going to be 7200.

so this 7201 is a Pre-SP1??

SP1 is most likely not being developed yet, or part of a different branch. This is the RTM branch, so yes, it's "Pre-SP1", but don't be confused with those screenshots last week, as most likely it was a bug in the build.
