Zain Adeel
WEI numbers should be left alone.. they nowhere give u real numbers....
penta_a
Simply a change in their WEI benchmarking routine, rather than a real graphics performance gain. I thought about the same thing, but I did put it in test and tuned out to be real improvement, I use Flight Simulator X a lot, with this build FPS increased by 9-11 FPS on the same previous settings, I will call that very good improvement. t3chw00di
I don't know if this is a bug or if it's intentional, and this is going from 7100 to 7201. The self signed (x64) drivers will no longer load even though it's in test mode. Device manager shows "windows cannot verify the driver signature blah blah blah crap." I can still use those drivers if I do F8 at boot and disable driver signature enforcement, but that's such a pain and sometimes you forget when rebooting. :(
Penryn
Some of the noticeable changes people reported so far: 1) Smaller file size installer 2) Faster shutdown & smoothier 3) Internet TV Beta 2.0 has been added in Windows Media Center 4) WEI score slightly increase for VGA Just wondering why i couldn't edit my own post ? Everytime i need to update something i have to post a new reply. It's so irritating.

Rudie32
My score went down! From 2.1 to 2.0 on my acer aspire one. 1 gig ram, 160 gig drive. 1.6 ghz atom processor. This is my score: Little smoother than before, hulu desktop works in low quality mode, but install took forever! I blame my netbook for that. Only quirk with updating vs. fresh format is i have to uninstall my sprint data card and re-install it every time i go to a new version. Not a big deal. That's what i get for being on the cutting edge!

scumdogmillionaire
They fixed the extra line break at the end of a tooltip i reported. Haven't added the period to the end of the devices/printers tooltip though. Is the Windows Logo screensaver coming back???

ToneKnee
Also, about the people complaining about the WEI, in previous builds, a bug was was created, and it's only now that the bug was corrected, I'm pretty sure someone from Microsoft said this before RC hit. sleekgeek
anyone get a stop screen yet? 7048 was the last rock solid build for me. everything past that went bad. so i installed 7137 and all is well. I didn't notice a single performance increase between 7000 and now. so the change I'm looking for is stability with this 7201 build. at this point I don't want to go through those weeks again. (7 is my main os (32-bit) my other two OS's are x64 vista and XP which don't support my wireless usb so... you know the deal.
Nagisan
WEI Crashes for me now.....latest drivers and everything, worked fine on every build from Beta (7000) to RC (7100), now it crashes every time I run it (as its doing its DX10 assesment). Other than that new issue (for me) it works just as well as RC did.
Jehtro
Does this version need a clean install? Or can you update over 7100 RC?

We get you don't like Vista/7. No need to announce it in every thread.
Digitalx
After 2-3 years i still can't find any reason to run Vista over XP left alone Windows 7. Judging by system 2 in sig Windows 7 and server 2008 R2 are only OS's to actually harness power of i7 with HT so there's one.
Udedenkz
Does it still take forever to update meta tags / album art? EDIT: And does explorer.exe still bloat up to 100+ MB? After 2-3 years i still can't find any reason to run Vista over XP left alone Windows 7. It looks prettier and it auto installs all your drivers as long as you have internet. Thats about it. Hardware-wise, if you do not need DX10/11, there is no reason - XP supports multiple cores and x64. Edited June 4, 2009 by Udedenkz

Other than that new issue (for me) it works just as well as RC did. Ok that was my fault, seems WinSAT does not like Fraps.....closing fraps and running it made it run fine: Processor: 7.1 (same as on 7100) Memory: 7.1 (same as on 7100) Graphics (Aero): 7.4 (Up from 6.8 on 7100) Graphics (3D): 7.4 (Up from 6.8 on 7100) Primary HDD: 6.7 (Up from 5.9 on 7100) Therefore going from 7100 to 7201 my base score rose from 5.9 to 6.7. Thats on: Q6700 @ 3.6Ghz 4GB DDR2 @ 1000Mhz HD4850 512MB Toxic (factory overclocked) OCZ Apex 128GB SSD It is clear they finally fixed some WEI bugs....when I upgraded to my SSD (normal 7200 RPM drive on Windows 7 RC up to my SSD on Windows 7 RC, both were fresh installs) my score stayed the exact same for my primary HDD (5.9 on the mechanical, 5.9 on the SSD) now, with 7201 my SSD does much better than my mechanical drive ever did (it maxed at 5.9 in both Vista and Windows 7, from Beta to RC). Oddly, my graphics scores improved drastically so they must have fixed those bugs as well (Windows 7 Beta I got higher graphics scores than I did on RC). All said and done yes, I know WEI score doesn't mean much, but its nice to see they actually fixed the bugs despite many people claiming there were no bugs......in my case even newer better hardware led to the same exact score up until 7201. Windows XP x64 Edition works with i7 + HT fine as well. From Business point of view XP runs Office 2007 SP2, IE8, WMP11, VS 2008 and everything else, Vista/W7 user is not any more productive then XP user. I guess DX10.0 and now DX11.0 (possibly on Vista too) would be only reason as far as gaming goes. Now having Windows Vista and Windows 7 next to each other it really makes me , what's the point.
NEVER85
After 2-3 years i still can't find any reason to run Vista over XP left alone Windows 7. Did you perhaps mean you can't find any reason to run XP over Vista? Because most of your posts tend to claim that Vista SP2 is perfectly fine (and it is) and that there's no reason to upgrade right now.
