Planning to buy X-Box 360

Recommended Posts

I am planning to buy X-box 360. :D

Want to ask some nooby questions first :o

1) Does X360 has more games than PS3?

2) Which version to buy? Pro or Elite?

3) Are X360 games cheaper than PS3 games?

4) Will I get RRoD when playing games?

5) And the noobiest of all, How do you play multiplayer in it? :D

1) I believe the 360 has more games than the PS3 at this point, not entirely sure.

2) Get whatever suits you, I'd personally go for the Elite: Black and a 120GB HDD. ( Same internals on both )

3) They are about the same, around here they are. ( Not taking offers and sales into account )

4) Can happen, probably won't, especially not on newer models.

5) You create a gamertag ( Free ), get a free months worth of gold, press "Multiplayer" in a game and you're golden. Then after the initial month you can create a new Gamertag for an additional free month or start buying Gold Subscription. Prices vary, get them off these dodgy-looking ex-eBayer sites, you can get a 12+1 month card for like 50% off. Of course you need an internet connection as well, wireless requires an extra purchase of the Wireless adapter.

1) Yes

2) Imo Pro but thats because i dont need the bigger hard drive.

3)No

4)Totally dependant on your machine and impossible to give a guaranteed answer.

5)Push ethernet/wireless in back of console, sign up for xbox live and play.

1) Yes (Metacritic index 637 XB360 games to 344 PS3 games)

2) Personally I'd go for the Elite so you can save more games to the hard drive

3) Usually the same price

4) Shouldn't do if you buy a newer console (Make sure you get a Jasper revision of hardware)

5) Plug in ethernet cable to your home network, buy an Xbox Live Gold subscription, follow the instructions.

1) Does X360 has more games than PS3? Yes, it does.

2) Which version to buy? Pro or Elite? Get the pro. It comes with HD cables, a headset and a 60GB hard drive.

3) Are X360 games cheaper than PS3 games? The games are about the same price

4) Will I get RRoD when playing games? As long as you buy a new console from the store, no you will not

5) And the noobiest of all, How do you play multiplayer in it? Join Xbox LIVE via a 1-month trial, go to the Xbox LIVE section of the game you want to play. If you like the LIVE service, you can get either 1 month, 3 month or 1-year extensions to your account.

Another benefit to the Xbox 360 is the fact that it can be modded. This is extremely useful if you have a kid(s) that love to hit your disks against the walls(LIKE I DO!!). You just keep a couple archive copies of your games in case something happens to the original disks. And if you have a SATA port on your computer, the 360 DVD drive can be hooked right up to that to rip games :)

1) Does X360 has more games than PS3?
According to Amazon as of now, I'm getting 599 hits on PS3 games (there are some dupes and future releases in there), and 873 results on 360 games. In addition you have the downloadable stores on each system, and XBLA has a much larger selection of games than the PS3 store right now. If you can get an older PS3, then you do have the ability to play the much larger library of PS1 and PS2 games on that system, which would give it an edge over the more limited BC on 360 for Xbox games.
2) Which version to buy? Pro or Elite?
If they're selling a recent Elite bundle with a new game (RE5 maybe? Is the Fable2/other game package an Elite?) then I would buy that. Ensure that you get a new "Jasper" unit (search online for how to identify one based on the voltage indicators visible through the console tag window).
3) Are X360 games cheaper than PS3 games?
In my experience, 360 titles drop in price faster than PS3 games. If you shop used, you'll generally find that prices are lower for 360 games than PS3 games because there is a larger install base of 360 consoles, so there are more people selling any individual title on 360 than PS3, and that increased availability drives down prices. Many 360 titles are region free (pretty much all Ubisoft titles, and nearly all Microsoft published titles), and you can buy the Asian (not Japanese) releases (which are in English) online for lower prices.
4) Will I get RRoD when playing games?
No, the newer systems actually don't support that behavior at all (they've removed the RRoD as an error reporting mechanism). The newer systems also use less power and emit less heat, and the boards generally have better cooling systems and haven't been mis-manufactured like some batches of the original 360s.
5) And the noobiest of all, How do you play multiplayer in it? :D
Subscribe to Xbox live gold (buy a 12+1 month card online for 35 bucks or something, enter the code in the system when you set up your account) then join a game. 360 has (IMHO) the most seamless online experience that I've ever seen. The invite, friends, cross-game chat, party system, and messaging are unequaled on other systems, and the experience is essentially the same in every game (with the exception of server browsing).

I advise against modding your 360. Lifetime live bans are the standard punishment for people found or reported to be using modded systems, and previous (mandatory to play online) system software updates have been reported to brick modded consoles.

1) Does X360 has more games than PS3?

Allegedly it does - but you have to judge it on the games you want - as 80% of these games may be "Barbie's Pony Boutique"

2) Which version to buy? Pro or Elite?

The difference between two is basically the colour and HDD size. I guess Elite if you can justify the extra...

3) Are X360 games cheaper than PS3 games?

Generally it seems yes. Also the licensing costs of manufacturers to release games on BD are higher I assume.

4) Will I get RRoD when playing games?

Been pretty much fixed now. New consoles don't have the same issues.

5) And the noobiest of all, How do you play multiplayer in it?

Online you need an XBOX Live Gold Subscription (negligible price). Locally you can do split screen in some games, but very few now :(

My console is currently modded. You will NOT get your console bricked because of a forced update...

Also, i'm not telling you to go out and DOWNLOAD games. If you make a copy of your game, it's 100% fine to play on Xbox LIVE, because it's a 1:1 copy of your game.

You may or may not. I'm just passing on the reports I've heard. They all seemed to be related to the fall update a couple years ago (which also bricked my console, oddly enough, given that it was new in box and as soon as I hooked it up it was bricked :/ so that was obviously a widespread problem). Luckily since it was new I just got a replacement from the vendor.

You can get replacement discs from the publisher for pretty much all games sold these days, consult the back of your manuals. I don't consider backups to be a reasonable excuse for modding a console. I've long had a region modded Saturn (switch mod, not a backup chip mod).

I'm set on buying one in the next two weeks, however, I've heard that piracy is rampant on the X360. Is this true for all models, or only specific ones?

BTW it's Xbox, there's no hyphen/dash there. Seems like all the questions have been answered, so congrats on the choice and prepare to become an addict.

Ok fair enough. Thanks so from that I'll check it out when its delivered this week.

Is it safe to assume that any 360 you buy these days in a Jasper then?

Pretty much. But you never know, some places could have older stock they never moved. I know for instance Amazon has been selling some older stock.

Which city do you reside in, and who's your ISP?

Just a cautionary note: Multiplayer performance here is pathetic...very high pings, lag, et al.

The model (if purchased from India) will be an older gen and may be prone to RRoD.

Other than that, its a good purchase (Y)

I'm in London.

So I would assume that GAME being a huge, well...GAME retailer would sell the newest stock.

I'll check when it arrives anyway; cant wait!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is untrue. I'm not completely sure it works this way, but games are pressed with a security layer that a computer DVD burner can't duplicate.

Hense why the supposed "safe" rips to play online are "stealthed".
