Planning to buy X-Box 360

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is untrue. I'm not completely sure it works this way, but games are pressed with a security layer that a computer DVD burner can't duplicate.

Hense why the supposed "safe" rips to play online are "stealthed".

very true, you'll need a PC-DVD Drive flashed with a Kreon firmware to be able to back up your xbox 360 games to your PC, if you burn that .iso to a dual layer disk and play on your 360 then it won't be safe to play online - you'd have to run it through a program such as abgx for it to be security patched.

Turns out my console is a Falcon. Ach well.

Anyway...

so I've had my 360 for 3 days now; and sofar all I've played is Gears of War 1 - which I'm ****ing LOVING; I'm playing it on Casual though since i'm getting to grips with the controller and playing fps. Just finished Act 1 and I'm playing through the Checkpoint missions on Act 2.

Have yet to load up Halo 3 too...

Anyway, I'm in the mood to grab two other games that dont involve guns or shooting monsters as I think I have that covered for a while!; so what should they be?

I'm thinking Street Fighter 4 and a racing game...Burnout is an obvious choice; whats the "best" Burnout game? I know theres Paradise but I read strange things about that; like how its not as much fun as the others.

When is Forza 3 out? I hear good things about that too...

Still not on Xbox Live as I'm holding off using my Gold Membership free 1 month until I have something proper to contribute to the people...and I've played some Halo 3. Natch.

SF4 is excellent, but don't neglect the other fighting games that are on the platform if you also like 3d fighters (SF4 is still a 2d fighter even though it's rendered in 3d now). You can get DoA4 really cheap these days, and it still holds up really well (hell, DoA2 and 3 hold up well because they're 480p 16:9 and 3 was an Xbox launch title).

Burnout Paradise is the best open world arcade-style racer on the system right now. Forza 2 is the best sim racer, but Forza 3 is right around the corner. Don't bother with any of the Need for Speed games, they've fallen off a cliff. There's a remake of the Xbox version of Out Run on XBLA that's cheap and fun, and again, don't forget the launch titles, because you can get Ridger Racer 6 wicked cheap (and it's the same game as the oddly named Ridge Racer 7).

If you like Gears, I recommend Army of Two and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. They're both hella crazy and have pretty much completely ripped off the Gears of War gameplay, and you should be able to get them at low prices.

If you're in for a different experience that will blow your mind, try out Viva Pinata. You'll feel like an idiot buying it, but it has a frantic pace and fun gameplay. Back on the launch window games, Amped 3! Senko No Ronde is out there cheap (Wartech in the US), and you should be able to get Oblivion Game of the Year, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey really cheap to deal with that RPG fix!

One of the best things about the 360 is that the library is so deep that you can easily get three or four games for the price of one new one and still have each game be of equal quality.

Excellent, thanks thats a big help.

I'm looking forward to seeing whats on the Marketplace once I'm signed up with my gold membership; I hear theres plenty of excellent "old" titles to try out.

I've attached a zipped csv file (old totally forward compatible spreadsheet file) of the original Xbox games that are both BC and have 16:9 support. I'm not recommending them all (and there are some BC games that you should play that aren't on this list because they're 4:3, like Halo and the first two Splinter Cell games), but it might be helpful if you're looking at a shelf-full of games wondering what to grab.
