Deihmos
The arcade is the best value. You can add a hard drive at a low price. What's up with all the playing burnt games talk. Pirates!!
Skulltrail
I suggest going with the Arcade and purchasing the Premium-items online. I've purchased the headset, rechargeable battery, plug-and-play kit, and a new 256MB all for less than $30. You can actually save a lot of money from purchasing items from Amazon.com as I did. I plan to buy a HDD soon (after reserving a copy of COD:MW2).
JustGeorge
If he's even thinking about installing any games to the HDD, then a 20GB drive is off the table. It'll take what, 2 before the drive is full? 60GB minimum :)

sn00pie
You can get a 20GB drive from Microsoft for $19.99 if you own a Arcade Xbox 360.Any Xbox can be modded to play burned games. Newer Xboxs(startin around March-April 2008) have a Phillips/Lite-On drive in them, which is a bit more difficult(but still VERY possible) to flash the firmware to the drive. The burned games MUST be burned onto a dual-layer DVD(DVD+R DL). They also MUST have a layerbreak setting(which can be done by using ABGX360 to create a .dvd file) ALSO, the arcade units are using the NEWEST HARDWARE(yes, newer than the pro and elite models). Most arcade 360s come with 256MB of built-in storage(so you can still save, as you wait for your hard drive to come). REALLY NEW(and maybe not even released in the USA yet, i'm not 100% sure on that yet) arcade consoles have 512MB of built-in memory, as well as new heatpipes and heatsinks. I'd say go for the Arcade and get the 20GB hard drive from Microsoft. That sounds like a good plan. So if I purchase a new Arcade model, I am fine as far as modding goes? Do you have a link to that 20GB promotion? Thanks :)

Dead_Monkey
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you only get a wired controller and a plain AV cable with the arcade package, right? All units are shipping with wireless controllers now. I think they still come with a regular AV cable. If you intend to use VGA to hook up your 360 to your TV then you have no bundled package with that option, so it doesn't matter.Yeah, I posted that :pI know I need the hard-drive. Can't I purchase the hard drive separately, like from a store? I don't think its worth $100 bucks, because I don't need anything else the Pro model offers over the Arcade. You can get 20 gig hard drives very cheap on ebay. Lots of people upgrading and hocking their old ones. You could always use a modified hard drive that would by 1/2 the cost. Didn't somebody post a guide in this section a while back on how to do it?My experience buying a modded 120gig drive has been poor. It seems like a frequent problem is that it borks your backward compatibility. Aside from that, it's fine. At this point I'm still using my fake 120gig and I have a 20gig that I use when I am playing back compat.you can install any 360 game to the xbox hard disk.Almost any. There are a few that aren't supported for installation (Crackdown, DOAX2), and some others that you wouldn't want to install (Halo3 underperforms when installed).
