Windows 7 Multi Video Card Question

Recommended Posts

I have an ATI AGP card and an Nvidia PCI card to give me 4 monitors on my Windows XP Pro setup. I know vista royally messed stuff like that up so that I couldnt run 2 different WDDM drivers from different companies, so I never went to vista.

My question is, Will Windows 7 allow me to run both cards and get aero on them? I hope someone out there has run into this, thanks for any help you can give me!

I don't see the problem with doing that, people have done setups like that before, don't see why it would make a difference if you use two different vendors, unless there is some kind of software conflict between the two graphics cards.

My understanding is that Vista and I assume Win7, unlike Win98 - XP, must have the same chipset, thought not nessasarily the same card. Please do some additional research but I FEEL that this is true. (Sorry to be vague, but I don't want to misslead you)

Actually, this is one of the things that was going to be added back into the mix for Windows 7, but I can't say I have tested it out. I definately remember reading that this was a feature they planned to add after they were forced to drop it in Vista. Whether or not they actually got around to implementing though, I am not sure.

Thats what I had read somewhere as well a while ago, which gave me hope. I just dont really wanna spend another $50 to get things working right unless I have to. I'll see what else I can find by searching more but its pretty hard finding anything about it, i hope someone can give me a yes for sure on here =]

Th different video chipset issue has bee fixed in build 7100, I know. I don't have that setup but someone with whom I work does and he is working fine with a PCI-X Nvidia and an on-board ATI. Though AGP might be a different story, I have not heard so.

You can use two cards by diffrent vendors in 7, however both cards need WDDM drivers so you might be out of luck with an older PCI card.

awesome thank you so much, There are WDDM drivers for both of my cards so I should be in luck! I guess I will give it a try this week.
