Network Problems

Recommended Posts

I'm using win 7 7001 and 2 of the other computers on our LAN are also Win 7 7001. Now the issue: My computer can not access any of the other computers on the network, keep getting error message that says that the path can not be found. Now on 1 of the other computers, my system can be accessed, but I can not access any of them. I have checked all the network settings and Firewall (KIS), and still have nothing. I try to ping the IP of the other systems and request times out. Anyone have any advice of where to look next?

Well if you can not even ping the IP you hae a firewall blocking, or your not on the same network.. Are they all connected to the same router - wired or wireless?

Many wireless routers have an option, sometimes called AP or Client isolation, or WLAN partition, etc. that prevents wireless clients from talking to each other for security reasons.

If they are all wired to the same router and you can not ping them by IP -- your firewalls are not configured correctly to all for ping. Which points to them not be configured correctly for file sharing as well.

I would suggest you get them pinging by IP, then once you are sure you have connectivity (since they can ping) then you can work on file sharing.

Its amazing how many problems users have with something so simple.. But since you have added a 3rd party firewall into the mix, I would look there first.

Well the computers in question are all connected via a wired connection to the same router. What is odd is that in Vista there was not any problem at all, but now Win 7 seems to bring with a new bunch of trouble. I also disabled Kaspersky, and noticed that even though Kaspersky was supposed to disable Windows firewall, it was not disabled, so I went ahead and disabled the firewall through the services. The exact message I get when try to access the networked PC is "The network path was not found" Also last night I was not even able to see any of the other computers, however, I could access the internet, so I checked the network driver and discovered that it was running one from MS not from Marvel, so I updated the driver to the latest Vista 64 driver and then reset the computer and then I could see all of the computers, but still can not access them.

Yeah there are shared folders, that is not the issue, the issue is that my system can not access any of the other connected systems, and it is not caused by the firewall, because I have disabled it and tried to connect, and that did not solve the issue. Now comes the odd thing: I can ping the other computers on the network, but I still can not access them! :argh:

OK, even more crazy stuff now: other computers can connect to my shared folder, but I can not access the other computers, regardless of permissions, and shared folders. I would love to know WTH is going on here!
