ady199
Can anyone give me some options on what Internet Security programs I can use in Windows 7. I currently use Eset v4 - but I find it very un-freindly. Thanks in advance
Rickkins
Personally, I use Eset Smart Security. I disable all the built in features that come built into windows.
Scorbing
No need to use security suites or antivirus software as long as you stay away from warez and porn sites. Should you have an absolute need to visit such dangerous places then completely turn off Javascript and Java and set the pop=up blocker to the max and nothing will get attached to you. If you download something, upload it to: www.virustotal.com And let them scan it for you. Security software tends to slow down the OS.

Besides, I have another computer with XP and NOD32 installed on it and that is where I scan the stuff. My main PC has no antivirus or security suites to slow it down. No need for it. I don't go on porn sites and I don't do Warez so I have nothing to worry about. I usually have Javascript turned off unless it's absolutely necessary to use it at a website. ProiektHat
Avira + windows 7 built in firewall works well....and i do agree, from my personal experience, that security suites tends to slow down your system, and of course stay away from dodgy sites :shifty:
Ambroos
Common Sense 2009 Edition +1, and it has never failed me before the last 4 years or so. If you really need something security get Avast 4 Home Edition or NOD32 or Norton. Don't bother with Firewall software or Antispyware, Windows Firewall and Windows Defender do a great job! Rickkins
and i do agree, from my personal experience, that security suites tends to slow down your system, Eset leaves an incredibly light footprint, with no noticeable system cost at all.... Don't bother with Firewall software or Antispyware, Windows Firewall and Windows Defender do a great job! Disagree totally. I would never in a million years leave that part of my security to microsoft....and I would not recommend anybody else do so either.

Jeff_MSWindows
Here is a list of security software providers who Microsoft has partnered with for Windows 7. Several of them have been mentioned in this thread already, and I believe most of them have free trials if you want to test a few of them out (at separate times of course)
Defiant
F-Secure are doing a 6month free trial of Internet Security Suite 2009 which works nicely with 7. You can get it from http://download.f-secure.com/beta/istp/istpbeta.exe but you need to sign up for a trial key. Might be worth a go. Scorbing
Stick with the following and you will never get infected: 1. Common Sense 2009 2. No Java or Javascript - unless absolutely necessary to view web site. 3. No porn sites 4. No warez sites. 5. Download from respectable sites only 6. Scan small virus-wannabe files with this: www.virustotal.com All this = 100% clean environment and no slow-downs.
