Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted June 8, 2009 The last few days playing COD:WaW has frozen my xbox to just a solid black screen, where trying to turn it off doesn't work, so I need to pull the cord out (ya i know it's not good, but you turn a console off tat won't turn off.) So I just tried to boot my xbox360, I get 1 red light E 71, looked it up and it says it might be caused by a dashboard update or hacking :/ Something I have never done to my xbox360. Tried to boot a second time, got to the dashboard and froze, tried again, 3 red rings. Tried removing my hard drive and holding the sync button, it boots to the dashboard where I could navigate around, but that is useless without a hard drive. Plug everything back in, 3 red rings. I think she's finished. Sucks my warrenty is expired.. I got the console on launch day. Time to go buy an arcade console...

Mathachew Veteran Posted June 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 8, 2009 Ouch. My console is dated March 06, so I'm fortunate that I haven't had any problems thus far.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2009 Author Global Moderator Share Posted June 8, 2009 A launch console lasted up until today? I'm impressed :p Actually no.. it was fixed 2 times already, but my most recent received console was 2 years ago? It isn't in warrenty since I purchased my original on launch.. unless this is still somehow covered? I got a question for you guys.. if I purchase the 60GB premium xbox360, can I download all my maps and stuff that I have purchased onto that just through my gamertag? Or is it going to think I am cheating the system and prevent me from using it
Sethos
Wait, so you had it fixed within the last 3 years, shouldn't it still be under warranty - Doesn't the RROD warranty 'reset' every time you get it back?

No or else people would continually force red rings and try their luck if other things went wrong. It's 3 years from your console sell date, hence why launch owners now aren't covered. NienorGT
My brother came when I got my 360 to play Castle Crusher, he logged into in it's GTag and downloaded the soft and we played. So it should work. But the save games are on your HDD.

Plus it didn't have HDMI :(

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 8, 2009 That really sucks. My [dead] Xbox 360 had a manufacturing date of February 2006 and it died in September of 2007. Instead of buying another Xbox 360, I purchased a new gaming rig and I'm quite happy. I planned to buy an Xbox 360 Arcade sometime ago but I used the money to buy gifts for my mom and dad. It would've been nice to still have an Xbox 360 but the fact that mine died after spending so much money to buy it in the first place ? well, it angered me. Luckily for me, my younger brothers are going to buy one next month. I'll finally have a chance to try ouHalo Warsi> anGears of War 2i>:p:p

Well it's done by the serial number so it shouldn't be an issue.
George P Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted June 8, 2009 Well if you wanted the bigger HDD and HDMI, might as well snag a new one. Good thing the prices are low as well. We'll probably see another price cut if not around the holidays then next year for sure as well.

Unrealistic
I got a question for you guys.. if I purchase the 60GB premium xbox360, can I download all my maps and stuff that I have purchased onto that just through my gamertag? Or is it going to think I am cheating the system and prevent me from using it Since no one has answered this question fully, what you can do is go to Account Management inside the dashboard, and redownload your content. When that is done, go here to transfer ALL of your licensed content from your dead 360 to your new one. You can only do this once every 6 months (or a year, don't remember), but if your new 360 dies, MS will automatically transfer your licenses for you. I have two xbox 360's: one that I travel with and one that never moves. I transferred all of my licenses to my stationary console last year. As for your save games, the only things I can think of is purchasing this and transferring it, or purchasing a memory card and moving your data from one hard drive to the other. You could also buy one of those Official MS transfer kits from ebay that come with the 360 hard drives and let the xbox clone your hard drive to the bigger one. I didn't know that. Some times you are sent a refurbished console, surely that is covered, as it's not the hardware you bought? ------------------------------ E71: Dashboard Error - Error within Xam.xex: possibly a dashboard update error, Check below in the "Console Reset Codes" for instructions. If that does not work there is no other solution and the console must be sent back to MS for repair. --==Console Reset Codes==-- Clear All Installed Game Updates and Console Cache 1. Go to the "system" blade 2. Select "memory" 3. Press Y on the HD symbol 4. Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X 5. A message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?" 6. Select Yes Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error. 1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one) 2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console 3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely. 4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally. Nope refurbished consoles are seen as "fixed" consoles in the eyes of the companies. Although a lot of places may extend your warranty 1-3 months if you're getting a refurb near the end of your 12 month warranty. When I sent in my 40GB PS3 in January to get replaced due to a noisy drive it's warranty was up at the end of the month so the guy said he'd extend it till March to make sure things ran okay with my refurb.
