Xbox 360 Maxed out, PS3 isn't

Recommended Posts

Just look at the progress that has been made since the release of the 360.

Call Of Duty 2, launch game for the 360, November 2005:

Gears of War 2, November 2008:

This huge progress was achieved in just 3 years.. Forza 3 is looking like a graphical beast that will look even better and I doubt it will stop there..

The Playstation 3 definitely has the graphical edge and will get even further ahead as time progresses. Sadly it's lacking in every other area imaginable thus making a graphical power-house pointless.

Yea, you can't play games or watch movies on the PS3, what a piece of... oh... wait.

Yeah, you don't know what I'm referring to so just shush, bob. ;)

Oh I think I know what you are railing about, it just isn't relevant since the PS3 clearly isn't lacking anything relevant to gaming. Outside of better friends functionality it has everything you need to play games, which is what the topic is really about.

So they are alienating a portion of the 360 userbase...nicely done.

Those people just need to get with the program and buy a damn hard drive. I dont know why microsoft even bothered with the non-hard drive systems to begin with. Its stupid and all it has done is limit what the developers can do with the games. They need to come out with a bigger drive that hold multiple terrabytes of data before they start with all the game downloads. Then all you have to do is sign into xbox live to download the rest of the game that way developers dont have to hold back on games.

That would alienate a lot more people. not everybody has their consoles hooked up to the internet you know..

+1 (Y)

Whilst most do, quite a few don't and that's why right now console manufacturers will not push for a mainstream console to be online only.

Back on topic though, I do believe that the PS3 is the machine that has the untapped potential in there. It's just if the dev's actually can learn how to tap into it, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 certainly look to be making good use of the SPU's so we could well see games looking that good becoming more frequent.

But coming from EA .... Meh I wouldn't quite believe that the 360 is 'maxed out' just yet.

i think the PS3 hasnt maxed out while 360 has because i was consistently seeing 360 getting better graphics than PS3, now PS3 is playing catch up

You was?

Thing is it's quite unfair to compare consoles on graphics when you look at exclusives as you never know if the other machine 'might' have been capable of it. Problem then comes to comaprisons on multi-platform releases when one seems to get a half arsed port (normally the PS3 due to apparent difficulties to code for)

You can get a 20GB HDD for $20 from MS. There's not excuse not to have one.

There is, it wasn't packaged with the machine they bought. Now they are being told they need to buy a peripheral to enable certain functions on games (N)

And how exactly is this different for, as an example, Guitar Hero, you don't have to buy the guitar, sure, you can play it, but it's not the full experience..

And in theory anything the PS3 produces graphically, the 360 can match and surpass due to the architecture of xenos vs rsx. All they need is a developer to harness that power.

Which leads back to this article being a POS and nothing but flame bait.

EA might have maxed out, but EA aren't pick of the crop when it comes to developers.

the developers for the 360 had an 1 year headstart and it's easier to develop for, so the ps3 will soon catchup and overcome(hopefully soon)

Yes but you can play Guitar Hero with the controller that came with the Xbox, but you cant play some games as they require the HDD.

So all in all not fair comparison.

Damn how many time have I heard that excuse for the past 4 years and it still hasn't over taken / over come squat :p

Didn't EA say the same thing like 2 years ago?

Exactly, and in a few months someone higher up at EA will come out with another quote (usually when plugging their new game), back tracking and how there is still a lot more to give.

Honestly, we're talking about EA here, who honestly cares what they think. They aren't pushing any hardware to any limits.

You're comparing two completely different engines if i recall correctly.

I love it when random people I never see post come into these console-comparison threads with crap that's been rehashed and disproven time and again.

Well, duh - You can't really progress graphically if everyone is using the same engine.

I think someone said this already, but bringing "exclusives" into this is silly. Saying the PS3 this year has "great looking, or the best looking" exclusive games graphics wise is like, I dunno how to word it other than saying it's stupid.

How can you talk about those exclusives and how they look for one system if we can't get them on the other to see if they'd be any different or not? Wouldn't it be better to go with newer multiplatorm games as a true comparison? And in doing so, you see that both systems can do the same graphics just fine.

I mean, one camp can toss out uncharted 2, but I can just as well toss out Alan Wake for the 360 and say that looks every bit, if not a bit better, than the others.

The only people you should be listening to are game devs like epic who make their own hardware pushing game engines. They know the hardware better than anyone over at EA that's for sure. Let alone some VP who's more of a marketing and PR guy.

Exactly, this is EA we're talking about. I mean really are we taking comments from a generic multi-platform rehashed game publisher.
