jordan399
Hi All, I went to put a blank cd into my mac mini this morning to burn some pictures. The disc never came up on the desktop so I tried restarting while holding the eject button - which did nothing. Now the mac doesnt seem to recognize that there is a dvd drive installed at all, the system profiler says there is no burning device attached, and the disk utility does not register the dvd drive. I know the drive "works" to some extent because when I start the computer up I can hear the drive spinning the blank disc. Does anyone know anything I can try? cheers,
Olemus
Well usually to get the disc out theres a small emergency hole you can shove a paperclip in to get the disc out, as to getting the dvd drive working again I have no idea as im not a mac user. Not on a Mac there isn't. I sure wish there was, same thing happened to my iMac's superdrive. I ended up buying an external burner rather than dissect it to replace the drive. jordan399
ok, i looked all over the internet, nothing worked so i took apart the mini and then the drive and manually removed the disk. upon restart, the drive works fine - mac os has no problems recognizing it, I still would like to know why this happened - so i don't have to go through the process of ripping the mac apart again I hope I didnt void my applecare warranty ....but whatever,
Olemus
You most likely have voided your warranty, especially if you had to remove any stickers to get it open.
sn00pie
Try these two things: 1. During reboot, after the tone, press and hold the mouse button (the left one) and wait. The CD trapped inside the mac will pop up automatically. If that doesn't work then: 2. Try inserting something thin, such as a business card, about half an inch into the centre of the slot, angled upward or downward to try and guide the CD out. That will often do the trick in a situation where the system is trying to eject the disc but for one reason or another it fouls the inside of the casing. Oh, you opened it up, bad decision. jordan399
i had tried those things prior to opening it up. didnt work. I didnt break any stickers (there are none), I had opened it up before to add RAM and that apparently does not void the warranty - so I guess they would have no idea that I opened it to retrieve the disc, either way, if it does break, now I can justify a new one.
