Office XP SP1 Install Problems

Question

I have tried and tried again to install Office XP SP1, but it does not work; I get an error message that says that PT322.tmp cannot have the patch applied to it. It continues to say that it may have been updated by some other means. I have noticed that others have problems similar to this. I wonder when a fix for this will be released?

Good work...also, apperently if you set the installer to only do something like Outlook, then apply SP1 it works, but thats not acceptable, cuz you have to reap;ly the patch after installing the rest of the stuff off the CD...

This works (for most people)

Office Corp XP can use the 39.4 MB SP1 Admin version, instead of the 17.3 MB SP1.

First read this VERY WELL:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/one/depb01.htm

Then get this:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/jou...ourn/Oxpsp1.htm

Its a bit of work, but its nice cuz you can then burn the updated files back onto a CD :)

:) Remember you (may have) heard it first here from:

What did you guys type on the Run: itn orther to install the update. Can you please include the whole line. I followed the Microsofts instructions and it did not work, it gave me an error that It canot be installed because maybe the program to be installed is missing.

Thx

I created this nice instruction sheet on how to update Office XP to SP1. I used it and it worked great!!!

1. Uninstall Office XP

2. Whip out your Office XP CD and create a shortcut to the setup.exe

3. Edit that shortcut and add /a to the end like this setup.exe /a

4. Now use that shortcut to create an admin install point. (I used G:OfficeXP)

5. Now it will ask you for the key and what not during this process. (this is good as once you create the install point you don't have to enter the key ever again)

6. After creating the admin install point you should have a directory with 7 files and 1 directory called files

7. Now download (if you haven't already) Office XP SP1 - Admin version (yes it's about 40 megs but worth it)

8. Run the admin update and point it to a directory you can create. (I extracted my files to D:oxpsp1)

9. Now open up a command prompt and enter in this information (remember D:oxpsp1 is the SP1 files and G:OfficeXP is my admin install point. You might have to change these to match your computer)

"msiexec /p D:oxpsp1MAINSP1_Admin.msp /a G:OfficeXPPROPLUS.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* G:oxpsp1.log"

10. Now you can burn the contents of the admin install directory to CD and then install Office XP SP1 with no problems

11. Go have a beer!

This should work fine for everyone having install problems. If not let me know and we'll see what we can figure out.

Enjoy!

Great wd40 saved me alot of time... i was out all day thas why i didn't have time to post the exact insturcations but i thought i was self explanitory...

Yall might want to include this in the update for the Office Web Components:

"msiexec /p D:oxpsp1owc10SP1_Admin.msp /a G:OfficeXPowc10.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* G:oxpsp1b.log"

And remember, after you make the new setup files you might want to copy the autorun.inf from the original CD to the new installl point, as well as the Office Reskit, sql extensions etc folders found on the the CD, before you reburn it. (unfortunately things like the SharePoint extension dont fit even on a 700mb CD since the new install files are not compressed)

Good luck... and thanks guys for the support.. ask me for any more support if you need..

Here is a simple batch file (raname it to .bat from .txt)

Use it from the command window or run dialog box - syntax:

patchsp1 officexp-sp1-extracted-files-folder officexp-install-point-folder

example:

patchsp1 c:oxpsp1 c:officeXP

Note that for this to work you should have have extracted the SP1 files to thier folder and performed a 'setup /a' to the install point folder.

After its done, you should have working SP1 setup files in the install point folder, hope this helps...

Thanx very much for dat info!!!

Without that i wouldn't have Sp1 installed but now i got a question

Can we now download the normal SP2 (when its released) and patch over the old Installation like the normal Sp1 (17.MB one)

Or do we have to download the Admin installation thing for Sp2??

Also i used this

C:OfficeSETUP.EXE /p C:MAINSP1_Admin.msp /a C:OfficePROPLUS.MSI

And it seems to have worked

But to be on the safe side i'm gonna do it with the Bat file cgx33 made

One step that was not mentioned:

Making the back ups:

--------------------------

1. Your current(old) Office XP version has got an option to EXPORT + IMPORT your Office settings via the

Save My Settings Wizard.

This ofcourse, needs to be done BEFORE any uninstall steps.

By IMPORT-ing the Save My Settings in your NEW upgraded OfficeXPSP1, it will later save in the hassle of reconfiguring your new install to your previous workarea.

2. Also do not forget to backup WORD's default template Normal.dot, since this template contains your latest Word 'inhouse' settings.

haha.. no, MS is getting smart and they made it so that the version we all have (warez) doesn't upgrade to SP1 and they are trying to crack it i guess. how dumb do you have to be to go to MS saying i got the warez version and the SP1 doesn't work! :s :D anyways.. who would buy office for $500 anyways!
