piehouserat
Hey, I'm thinking about getting a macbook pro in the near future, and one of the things I'd like to do is connect it up to a projector/tv and 5.1 speaker system. Is this possible? also, I already have a apple remote which came with my universal dock, would this work for a macbook? thanks, Martin
Miuku.
The answer is yes and you'll get DD/DTS 5.1 out of it. You might need to buy one of these: A mini tos-link cable - the above is just an example of course. Your set naturally has to be able to decode DTS/DD, for example I have an external amplifier that nicely decodes DTS from my MBP.

You can get a DVI-to-HDMI cable - or even better a DVI-to-HDMI converter - to get around that problem - works like a charm and of course the picture quality is as good as it'll ever get. The converter shouldn't lighten your purse much, last I checked they were really cheap. Mine is the "old model" non-unibody MBP 2.4GHz so I'm not quite up to date on whether they changed something in the newer models - and apparently they did since they have the new displayport in them so most likely my suggestion to get a converter won't work for you, at least not the generic one.
