Windows 7 build 7229 leaked

Recommended Posts

So it activated with the RC1 key, which is odd, since I was told it would not work with this build. Hope it's not just a 7100 repack or fake :p

Nah - was led to believe RC/Beta keys wouldn't work but it appears that the keys are working and activating just fine.

It doesnt really matter anyway, if you did dl 7137 on the day it leaked it will expire without key or rearm arround 28 june 7201 isnt even going to expire like 7137/7227 and 7229 course it wont be on your hd anymore just before expire date :)

I would like to see the beta keys NOT working anymore course thats a clear sign some work is done... and we dont want to run beta/rc whatever non offical builds do you see anyone still running a rc of vista :p

And i want to see that "new" months annouched changed name cq way of activation...

That kind of stuff is so NOT interesting ... I'm going to the pub instead.
It's not there :D

Yes, I also doubt they have 7229 at the pub

All mine have said 30 days.

Yes, I've also ever had 30 days.

Also, can some sort of admin or dev update the current leaked build at the top? Its ages out of date.

It was seriously out of date for a long date, but was recently update to 7201 after I posted in the support forum about it

Now it's only mildly out of date anymore.

What does using a build between RC and RTM, such as this one, mean for applying updates that MS puts out? Some updates for RC will inevitably appear in WU (as they did for Beta), probably for many months to come, so would they show up in 7229 as well? If not, would installing them from the download center be advised?

I would say not installing WU manually. The think is virtually finished and I would say with the rate of leaks most major security issues would be fixed in each build.

Cheers

You will get security and critical updates with this build and all others if you keep automatic update active. You're crazy if you don't.

Agree'd.

Updated from the last leak to this build, 64 bit, noticed no difference for those wondering.

What is the significance of this apparently being an OEM build? Have any of the earlier leaks been OEM?

None. No

Well, you guys said there is no Aero Diamond and that Microsoft isn't working/trying it. You are obviously wrong. Aero Diamond were DWM enhanchements that produced some neat effects which made the UI better. They are working on this idea since Longhorn, and never stopped. It won't be in the RTM though, but there is a video.

Even though it looks nice, I'm afraid it's terribly fake. Look at the time in the video, it just jumps around --> this is videoshopped.

It's from an official Microsoft source, but I don't think it's implented in any build. It was just a directed video I believe. But the Aero engine is very much capable of suchs effects. Like it or not, it's what Aero Diamond is today, it might see the light in a next version of Windows in some way.

Ok, just finished installing this on my AcerOne Netbook and all went smoothly. 2 things I have noticed about this build is:-

1) Better hardware support - I have a Netgear USB Wireless 'N' dongle attached, I used to have to find the driver through Windows update, but this time the driver was automatically installed. I also have a in-built Webcam, again I used to have to install a seperate driver for this to work, not this time, It was installed straight away, and the video output is a lot clearer and more responsive

2) Speed - My Acer AspireOne Netbook now flies with this build, it all seems a lot more snappier.

Great build & I can confirm that my Beta key is still working.

Looking forward to the RTM build

waiting for MS to fix Media Transfer protocol usb driver (wpdmtp.inf)

Is this what needs to be fixed so that my external (USB) HDD (Seagate FreeAgent 1.5TB) will power down when I use "Eject" ? As of RC, it still doesn't power down. It's strange, though, because obviously something is going right as if my computer is in sleep mode and I plug in the USB drive (to the USB connector), it wakes both the drive and the computer. It also powers down if I put the computer into sleep mode. Unfortunately, if I then unplug the USB cable, that wakes the computer. I don't believe it's the drive as on my XP SP3 computer, "Safely Remove" does power down the drive.

Even Vista doesn't power down external drives on eject, at least for me.
