I don't see the word "ipod" in your post so I'll just post what I did.

I copied the iTunes folder onto a flash drive, then copied it into my iTunes folder on the mac laptop we have. Turned on iTunes on the Mac, and then there I think it pulled all of the songs into the program on it's own. Now clearly that method doesn't help if you buy one song at a time and want them to be shared back and forth. But then, I don't know 100% what you are trying to do.

If anyone has a solution to sharing back and forth as you are buying things, I'd love to know also.

If both systems were on the same network, then could you sync the folder? Or even a shared folder between the two?

I've done the same thing before, it works but not for playlists and i'd like a good solution for sharing back and forth too :)

What about installing MacDrive for Windows, setting both iTunes libraries to point to the same folder (in the preferences; I'd choose the default Mac OS X music folder) then turning on library consolidation in both versions? In my mind I can see that solving the issue :) but I interpreted your issue as having both OS X and Windows on the same machine.

If you have a FAT32 partition on OS X, or install that freeware NTFS support app in OSX, you won't need to use macdrive on windows. Just have the library on that partition. Should work.

Could always stream the music over your local network if you are setup that way. I use a free program called PulpTunes on the Mac. It sets up a local web site for streaming to any box on your network, and if you allow from the outside world.

Pulp Tunes Site

Not exactly the same format as you are asking for, but in the long run, helps save space.

I don't think iTunes lets you copy/sync the music between computers, only share it. SMB sharing should work.

I have a Network Storage device, (Apple Time capsule) and my iTunes library and files are on that drive,

with the Airporty utility for windows installed on vista my time capsule shows up like a regular HDD on vista and i can direct Itunes to read the library from there on Both,

everything shows up exactly the same on both, i can purchase anything from either Mac or Windows the files go where they are supposed to.

To make this work both Mac and Vista iTunes have to be using the EXACT same settings, i have mine set to 'Keep iTunes music folder Organized' AND 'Copy file to iTunes Music folder When adding to library'

doing it this way i can even sync my ipods and iphones using either Mac or Win WITHOUT having to erase the device first becase the library files dont match.

This can be done with ANY Network Storage Device, not just an Apple Time Capsule
