Huge external hdd problem!

Recommended Posts

hey guys, having a huge problem... heres the deal.

i have an external 250g hdd that i wanted to format to mac os file format because my 360 and ps3 dont read ntfs (and before you mention FAT 32, I cant use that because i have files that are over 4G (movies)) -anyways so i borrowed my brother's 500g external hdd and there is about 190G that i copied from one hard drive to the other (both are USB2). afterwards i went to disk utility and formated (erased) the 250G drive and made it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then i started copying files back to it and ran into this error "the following operation can not be done because the file XXXXX already exists" or something to that effect. ok i erased it again and emptied the trash and restarted the computer. and i got the error again. ok i went back to disk utility and erased it again but this time told the computer to fill the drive with zeroes to kill ALL the data restarted and got the error again! im about to tear my hair out guys and would appreciate any help! i have to give this drive back soon and it seems like all my data is now stuck on it!!! :( :( :(

Try repairing the disk. Try repairing its disk permissions.

Otherwise: Try formatting it as FAT32, and then HFS+. Try booting into your booting your 10.5 disc and then formatting it there. Try GParted to format it as NTFS/FAT32, and then HFS+ in Disk Utility.

im so frusterated, it almost feels like i own a pc again! :p

that goes to show, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I just wish that apple and ms settled on the same standard for a file system or that there was interoperability

I ended up formatting the drive ntfs and putting all my data back on it

So my ps3 and 360 still don't recognize it and when I want to play media I have to transfer it to a flash drive first! :(
