Corris Veteran Posted June 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2009 My Uni is giving me a free Macbook, and has provided me with a small list of each vendor I can get one from, porblem is, each listing of the three states slightly different specs for the MacBook. Seeing as I haven't a clue which is better since the configurations change every so often, so I don't know if there going to be giving me a new one or old or whatever, I would love some advice on which to go with when i get, if given, the choice. But anyway, these are the options with the details I have for each, though some are not complete. 1. Apple Macbook 13" TFT Core 2 Due 2.0Ghz - 3MB Cache 160GB SATA 2GB DDR3 RAM 8X SuperDrive NVidia GeForce 9400M with 256MB DDR3 SDRAM And then the extras = ?849 2. Apple MacBook 13" Core 2 Due 2.4Ghz 2GB Ram SuperDrive 250GB HDD = ?1,100 3. Apple MacBook 13.3" TFT Intel Core 2 Due 2.0 GHz 2GB Ram 120GB HD DVD-RW =?635 So yea, there essentially the same. but I was hoping one of you elite would help me with figuring out which one is the newest, etc, since none of them match up with what is on the apple store at the moment, or if I should just go with the most expensive one. Thanks ahead of time.
cabron
Go for the most expensive one
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted June 12, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted June 12, 2009 What are the 'extras' on the first one? You dont necessarily need the extra processing power if it's for Uni if you get some other stuff with the cheaper one. The first 2 are the Unibody (Alu) ones, the third one is the old white plastic one. So forget the third one.

crazzyyfool
Are the specs old? The Macbook is no longer known as Macbook if its a unibody.

So forget the third one. I just put extras but didn't really mean "extras", jsut normal stuff that comes with a macbook sicne it was written down but the others don't have it. The extra info for the first: 10/100/1000 ethernet Airport Extreme Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR 2x USB 2.0#Mac OS 10.5 & iLife built in iSight camera Mini display port up to 5.0 hours battery life Total Weight 2.04kg But from the sound of it, they don't look to be the Aluminum ones. Well, besides the weight which seems to be the same, lol.
protocol7
The 2.4Ghz 13" MacBook has a backlit keyboard. I'd be taking that one.
Corris Veteran Posted June 12, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2009 Would you guys say that the second one is this one? http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macb...body-specs.html it seems to align properly with everything including the average weight. If so I think I'll go for the second.
KoL Veteran Posted June 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2009 I think the second one is Aluminum. If its free I would get that one. The first MacBooks with NVidia GeForce 9400M where the Aluminum ones right? I don't remember.
sn00pie
I would go with the first or second one. All the unibody Macbooks have DDR3 RAM, while the polycarbonate white ones have DDR2 RAM. The first one is definitely a unibody one, but the second one I can't tell. It does say 2.4Ghz, which means it could possibly by the unibody 2.4ghz model, but then again the old blackbook had a 2.4ghz didn't it? KoL, the current polycarbonate Macbook carries a 9400M too. Yeah asked the wrong question. I meant to ask if the Macbooks (Alu and plastic) got the 9400m card when they made the first aluminum update? before they had an intel card I think. My cousin got an Alu Macbook with the specs of the first one. It could be an aluinum.
sn00pie
Yeah as far as I know they did ship with the 9400m. The first one is definitely aluminum, its got DDR3 RAM. The second one I'm not so sure because it could be an older blackbook.
Corris Veteran Posted June 14, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 14, 2009 I'm considering just emailing and getting the model numbers for the first two to check what is what. And the third is definately an older white one.
Corris Veteran Posted June 22, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2009 To add to the fun, I have checked out the company that I would be getting the ?1,100 laptop from and it is no longer listed after Apple updated their line a week ago. So who knows what I am going to get when I can call to arrange it all.
Brian M. Veteran Posted June 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2009 It'll probably be one of the new 13" MacBook Pros. Can't you just get them to let you buy it from Apple directly? Explain that you'll get a large student discount and they might allow it :p.
jewishornet
If #2 is a unibody then get that, its a no brainer.
