Winows 7 Sleeps while programs running

Recommended Posts

Im running the RC of Windows 7 and it seems to sleep even when programs are running.

For example, im converting an MKV to a DVD, or MP4.

The transcoder is up and running, CPU is at 100% and the thing goes to sleep.

Why does this happen? Anybody know how i can stop it from entering sleep when applications are running?

Go to control panel > hardware and sound > power options > change when the computer sleeps. You can set how long the computer has to be idle before it sleeps or just make it so it never sleeps.

You could run this program while converting video. It will prevent your computer from idling to sleep.

Programs have to explicitly tell Windows not to enter standby. It doesn't matter if the program is using 100% CPU.

Thanks, that perhaps explains it.

Yeah, i know how to extend the time i just wondered why, when a program is running it enters sleep state.
