MacBook Air - Output 1680x1050

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'll admit I haven't fully done my research on this one, but was wondering if anyone knows the answer. In OS X, can the Macbook Air output 1680x1050 to an external monitor. I just tried it but the resolution isn't there (oddly 1600 x 1200 is!).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Should be able to... have you told it to rescan the displays once you plugged the monitor in?

I'm using the VGA breakout as opposed to the DVI (as my main machine is plugged in to DVI on all my monitors), should this matter?

I really can't seem to convince it to use 1680x1050.

I had a first gen MacBook Air and it was able to use the 1680x1050 res fine. I would try the DVI connector and see if that fixes the problem (i doubt it though).

Also are you mirroring the screens or using each one separately? I would try not mirroring them and making the external monitor the primary monitor - which I think will fix your problem

edit: here is the screenshot I was talking about above

By dragging the Menu Bar from one display to the other, you might change that. The dragging can be done in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. But only when an external display is connected of course.
