logon screen...

Recommended Posts

ok, a little background first (excuse the pun).

i used the 7077 version for a long time, and it ran perfectly. i never had a moments trouble with it. however, i was talked in to doing a clean install of the 64bit 7229 build. well, since the beginning, i have really, really hated that blue flowery logon screen, and with all the new cool backgrounds, i previously changed it in the old 7077 build, by adding the path c:\windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds, and putting a new picture in the "backgrounds" folder. then going to hkey local...\software\microsoft\windows\cur. version\authen...\logonUI\background, adding a dword, OEMBackground, and setting it to 1

well, when i then started using 7229 x64, i tried the same thing, only i used a qword (qword instead of dword because it is x64), and it doesn't work. i am still seeing that same gay blue flowery screen that still has me mystified as to why ms would choose to use this crappy screen, with all the really nice new screens they added in win 7.

anyway, i am hoping that someone out there can tell me how to change the logon screen in a x64 system. thanks for taking the time to read this and help me out.

I just had a look for you in my 64-bit copy of build 7229.

In the 64-bit copies of Windows 7 the DWORD ?OEMBackground? is there by default, it does not need to be created. It only needs to be created on the 32-bit copies of Windows 7.

If, for any reason, it is not there, delete the QWORD you created and replace it with a DWORD. It is still possible to create a DWORD on 64-bit copies of Windows.

After you have done that just double check you have given everything the correct name and put the background image in the correct place etc.

I hope this helps:); :)
