Icons and sounds will only be added in the very final last build since they require no testing at all.

I don't see anything wrong with these ICONS

The Paint, Calculator and Control Panel icons (and a few others I believe) are in a completely different style than the rest of the system icons.

Exactly, sombody else understands that this is inconsistent and unfinished if the rest don't get updated.

I don't think there are going to be new icons. Predictably, there will be a bitchfest about it after RTM, much crying, and gnashing of teeth.

We saw it with XP. We saw it with Vista. We'll see it with 7.

Both XP and Vista got a new icon set.

They got some new icons, and kept some old icons.

I personally want them to update the icons for setup executables and MSIs, but that's not in the hands of Microsoft.

Yeah but a vast majority were changed in both. 7 has only about 5.

I just want to see the end of all those 16-bit icons from back in the late 90s! I know its not going to happen though unless they overhaul windows in a major way.

Exactly. Also, every release of wmp had a new icon. In wmp12 they only changed the hue of the icon from greenish to blueish (that's just lazy). It's as if all microsoft's graphic designers took a leave of absence for the duration of windows 7 development.
