highpoint
Is it true that the new MacBook pro 500GB 7200-RPM Hard Drive is only a SATA 1.5 versus the older MacBook Pro that was 3.0?
jtm7x2
From everything I've read, this is the case, but it's not going to make a difference unless you install an SSD on there, as the standard drives don't quite reach that throughput anyway. Vice
Yes this is true. The older 15" Unibody (the one without the SD Slot) had 3.0Gb SATA interfaces whilst the new 15" with the SD card slot and built in battery only has 1.5Gb SATA interfaces. The MacBook Air, White MacBook and 17" MacBook Pro still feature 3.0Gb SATA interfaces.
giga Veteran Posted June 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 18, 2009 I'm nearly confident it's a firmware issue, as the 9400M/MCP79 chipset definitely supports 3.0. (as the previous unibody and white macbooks do). Apple are investigating it, so it doesn't seem to be intentional and a firmware update should come soon enough. null_
I know in the previous unibody MacBook Pro (from late 2008), the hard drive was SATA II, are they still SATA II in the new models and simply limited by the interface or have they switched to SATA I hard drives?
