Phantom Helix
directX is already a part of Windows, you should not need to install it, some game installers do install it but if the version on your system is newer it does not change anything so just say yes if it asks you to install

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 17, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2009 It's available, but it's always nice to have the latest version of DirectX. Since you're running Windows 7 RC, download and install the DirectX End-User Runtime Redistributable. It provides updates to DirectX 9.0c and previous versions of DirectX. hdood
Yes, you do need it. The various versions of the DirectX support libraries are not part of Windows. Well, technically you don't need to install them unless you have a game that depends on them and won't run, but it doesn't hurt to download the latest redistributable so you'll already have them. Better run the web installer. It will download only the updated files that are needed: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
hdood
I gave the URL for the full redist because I think I remember reading that someone had problems with the web installer on a Windows 7 build, but it's a good one to bookmark too.

Good thinking. That's precisely why I linked to the redistributable as well. Also, I believe this is the thread you're thinking of. ;)
