Ambroos
Is this a replacement for Windows defender? It's basically the defender core + an AV on top of it, so yes it does. On install it also disabled Defender automatically.
Inctye
Is this a replacement for Windows defender? No, Windows defender will still be bundled into Windows as usual. Morro will be available as free download like many of the other Windows Live Essentials.

Ambroos
Thats what I wanted to hear, thanks. Remember that it's not a bad thing! Morro/Security Essentials contains the Windows Defender Engine so it's just got Defender integrated in it.
jtm7x2
I'm a bit hesitant to use it after the OneCare debacle, but I'll give it a shot on my Virtual Machine running 7. AVG is working well enough on my other machines for me to not mess with it.
ScorpioRGc1
This might be worth switching from my long-time AV protection from Avast. I'll have to see some comparisons first, I think, but I'm pretty excited about this release! :D

I didn't see the point of two similar applications running, so its good that Defender is disabled while Morro is running.

ogamawab
The new security offering, code-named as ?Morro? will feature streamlined solution with smaller footprint that focuses on core anti-malware protection and will provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans, according to Microsoft press release. The security product won?t provide additional non-security features or advanced functions that comes with commercial consumer security suites from other third-party vendors. Possible exclusion includes firewall. ?Morro? will be built from the existing anti-malware technology that fuels the company?s current line of security products, highly possible is Windows Live OneCare, which have received the VB100 award from Virus Bulletin, Checkmark Certification from West Coast Labs and certification from the International Computer Security Association Labs. As such, Microsoft also announced that it will discontinue Windows Live OneCare from June 30, 2009, although paid subscription users can continue to receive up-to-date virus signatures through the whole subscription period, as explained in Windows Live OneCare blog. The freeware ?Morro? will be available as a stand-alone free download and will support Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
