Sethos
Oh, sweet! I suggest anyone interested in the game to buy it, you won't regret it! The upcoming patch should also be a welcome change -- https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=786352
KiHu
This game was a huge dissapointment, played it at a friend that owns it and i found it to be VERY slow and sluggish, gameplay wise that is and wasnt just as fun as lets say, Medieval Total War. I wish they would have another weekend deal than this..was really hoping to buy some game this weekend but looks like I wont be doing it.
trag3dy
You know, it's funny, I was just debating purchasing this game last night. Reading that the upcoming patch fixes a lot of the performance issues (hopefully). But I decided at 50 dollars I wasn't to interested in getting it because I didn't know how much I'd be able to play it. *goes off to buy it* Edit: I actually have a question about this game... what is the Special Forces Edition? Is it just a collectors edition or what? Does it come with the full game? I didn't exactly understand the difference between the 2 versions. And most important is it worth the extra bit it costs? Sethos
Special Forces is just a few extra units, that's it - Not worth the extra cost, at all.

trag3dy
If I remember correctly the new patch that is due out next week(I think its next week) adds new units to make each faction unique anyhow. To make up for those "elite" units.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2009 Wow! The Empire: Total War?i> demo on Steam is horrible. How did it pass any quality assurance testing? The HUD and buttons don't even appear on the screen properly. Also, the graphics aren't that great at high settings. I was hoping the demo would give me a taste of the game, not some excuse for a demo filled with performance and rendering issues.

Lannister
I tried this game out, I stopped right after choosing my empire to play. The map screen is mind boggling. I don't have the time to learn this. It's easier if you've played the other games in the series, but I'd agree that the campaign map is getting way over the top. They need to strip it back down to something like the original Medieval: Total War graphically (it sort of looked like a board-game/old map) but keep the current functionality. LingeringSoul
50% such a new game is pretty sweet indeed. I picked it up yesterday, and I'm probably going to play it today. I'm in the mood for a non-competitive strategy game, so this is perfect timing. EDIT: I did end up picking up the version with the elite units included (the $35 one), which may have been rather unnecessary in retrospect. I figured that even with the $10 added on, I was still saving money when compared to the full price of the original game. Ah well.
Tharp Daddy
That's great, they (the game developers) didn't have time to test out the new Nvidia drivers before the game release, so my new graphics card can't play this game unless i want to roll back my drivers half a year. trag3dy
What kind of video card do you have? I'm using a gtx 260 and it plays just fine. I'm using the 182.50 version drivers. No idea what the latest version is though.
Sethos
And just a helpful suggestion that has been passed on to me, disable "SSAO ( Ambient Shadow )" in case you have it enabled, it's a HUGE performance hog. It gave me a boost of around 50-70FPS.

trag3dy
I'm using a Nvidia GeForce 9600GT, and the latest drivers as of June 18th. According to someone in the thread about the soon to be released update to this game (that hopefully comes out tomorrow I think) currently only the 182.50 version works with it. Hopefully the update/patch will fix the driver issue. hope this fixes the issue with only being able to use older drivers, as after a little testing the only drivers i found that work with Empire is/was 182.50s all the others caused hard system locks

Hopefully the update/patch will fix the driver issue. What problems are people having? I am using the latest drivers, 186.18, and I'm not having any issues. I turned every graphic detail on max and I haven't ran into any problems yet? My card is a BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC I just installed the game though an am playing through the America campaign. trag3dy
I couldn't tell you, I already had those particular drivers installed. Mostly I'm really lazy when it comes to updating drivers. The person who reported that said hard system locks.
