tsupersonic
So I bit the bullet. I 'got' my first Mac. Got it for free from work, since they were going to throw it out. Anyways, so I installed Leopard (because that's what the sysadmin gave me), and everything went fine. I went to Software updates, and there was a few things like remote desktop, itunes, quicktime, and 10.5.7. It downloaded everything and restarted, and went fine. But, it would start to pinwheel and the system became unusable, so I restarted again. It wouldn't start, it hung at the screen with the Apple logo and the thing spinning around at the bottom. So, I reformatted and installed Leopard again. Should I install this update, and will it cause my computer to do the same thing as before? Or should I not install and skip this update? It's an eMac, with a 1.25GHz G4, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, ATI Radeon 9200... Thanks!
bauhaus
Low End Mac reports that Leopard run nicely on such old computers. Maybe a hardware problem?
Max Veteran Posted June 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2009 I have the exact same Mac, except with a 160GB drive. No problems here. I suggest a completely clean install and start again - something might've screwed up on the way. Could be a bad sector on the HDD also?
zhangm Supervisor Posted June 20, 2009 Supervisor Share Posted June 20, 2009 I recommend trying to install by downloading the entire 10.5.7 Combo update from the Apple website and running that. Then try running Software Update to pick up the last few updates.

I'll try downloading it from the website, then running software updates. Thanks

tsupersonic
Well, installed the 10.5.7 then ran the software updates, and it seems to be ok for now. Can't imagine it being a RAM failing, since this was used for a few years at a corporate environment.
