MSFT Engineers are signing off the RTM build of Windows 7

Recommended Posts

I told you where you were wrong, first you stated that the leaked build was: 6.1.7201.0.winmain_win7ids_sp.090601-1516 where in reality it was: 6.1.7201.0.winmain_win7ids.090601-1516.

My build list stands as is. I at first had 7201 as IDS only but information I obtained recently put it in the SP, that source may be wrong.

Then you said: "It leaked about a week after the first RTM branch began." which is also not true as the RTM branch didn't exist till around the 15th of June.

The RTM branch started on June 12th. Pre-RTM started much earlier. 7201 leaked on June 3rd, so I meant a week or so after the first pre-RTM.

I agree on 7260, it is the most stable and up to date build available for now. Oh BTW, Happy Fathers day to all the dads out there.

I know you may not know much about web servers, and site coding... but you know you dont actually have to take a site down to publish new files to it, or replace text or images, etc.

Sorry to cut into the conversation like this. I just wanted to say that I know about web servers and site coding, and you are correct about them not needing to take a site down to upload files. I did it all the time after creating Vistadreams.org and running it for 1 1/2 years. The last six months, I ran my own dedicated server for the site. :) The one thing that is possible though is that they took it down to beef up the servers for the RTM download (when it arrives). :)

Just want to add a little bit of clarity. The first build for the rtm branch was indeed compiled on the 12th, however the branch itself only appeared on the 15th (as informed by people with partner/employee access).

Secondly, the labels of pre-rtm or rtm escrow (could just as well be named post rc) are just that, labels. All these milestone builds that warrented a label were still put into the winmain branch. The real branches as of late have been winmain, win7rc, winmain_sp, win7ids, win7ids_sp and finally win7rtm.

Looks like Windows 7 RTM Sign off will be on July 13, according to Wzor. He's been pretty good so far, but dang it, I thought Microsoft would finally just put it together.

Oh well, better they take their time to tweak any problems they may have confronted during the voting proceedings. Looks like they made the right choice to take their time. Just a few more weeks.

Guess I'll stick to my Vista Ultimate, might as well get the most use out of it. Thank God for student discounts!

As I understand it, they are looking for a good candidate and so far have turned down 7260,7261,7262 and are currently deciding about 7263. While they may find one, it won't be official until July 13v
