mujjuman
dude, then i suggest to reinstall Vista 64bit instead of trying have Windows 7 RC as your main OS. If you want to try it out, by all means, do... but try it on a separate hard drive. You risk losing all your data/etc. since it is not a full OS yet. JessicaD
Gameboy1977, While the ISO burned disc will not prevent you from performing an upgrade, it is also not truly recommended. Anytime you are installing a new OS it is always wisest to perform a clean install. For more information and other helpful tips on Windows 7, Microsoft does have a site with whitepapers, tutorials, walkthroughs and screen casts on all the ?under the hood? features in Win 7. primexx
by the way, if you're reinstalling an OS, you don't have to defragment before hand since the install will wipe it clean anyways. just make sure you backup your data.

In real life, heavy users can have >200 applications installed and thousands of related docs on their hard disk. Upgrade disc is the biggest joke, and i hardly can believe people are so hyped about $100 upgrade Windows 7 package which is absolute bull****. Do yourself a favor. Do clean install. Before you do clean install save your files, game saves, music and whatever to another drive or dvd disc. Edited June 23, 2009 by jjrambo

If Vista > 7 upgrade scenario is not properly developed by MS then this should be considered a major failure of 7! I am pointing to that problem since whole talk about cheap upgrade path started. People are so blind or brain washed...all they see is $80 for upgrade...it's cheap, it must be good but they don't realize that it wont damn work. I don't blame MS but it's just too complicated to get things upgraded considering so many variables hardware/software wise. It's not like Mac where hardware and pretty much software is controlled by one company. MS should remove upgrade as an option to save themselves and customers from headache. Just have full install disc for some reasonable price. If you stuck with only upgrade license the best way would be to do full install from upgrade disc without entering cd key number, but make sure you select version of Windows you have upgrade license for. After the installation is completed, don't pick any updates, driver or software install. Then you do upgrade process which should go smooth cause basically you are doing 1 + 0 = 1 mathematically sort of speak. It's longer process of installation but at least it's worth it considering 80-100 you paid to get your upgrade copy. Omen1393
90 PCs out of 100 will fail to do upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. Citation please. My parents did an upgrade from XP to Vista and it works relatively good, it didn't fail or anything. Personally I never do upgrades, however I do know that the upgrade process for Vista to 7 will be even better than XP to Vista because the installation process and upgrade process has changed since Vista.
