Pictures Location and the relationship between WMP and Explorer

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Media player tracks pictures. There is no way to stop this (wmp12). Please let me know if it is possible to stop this.

Secondly, assuming I have to track pictures, WMP tracks them by library, specifically the Pictures library.

Is it possible to get it to change the library that it monitors? Say Create a new library and get WMP to track that instead of the official Pictures library?

Thirdly on the start menu, the Pictures link, again, is hardwired to the Pictures library, can this be changed?

If not, have microsoft ever considered that people have 2 picture folders? And would like to distinguish between the family photos which should remain on the computer and linked from the start menu, to those "internet lolcat" pictures which you can share with your flatmates?

Either that or can I add entries such as "pictures, documents, Music" from the top?

Seriously, there has to be a way to customise this stuff.......

Uhhh, there is.

Right-click on the Pictures library in WMP 12 and remove all the folders. You can also remove the link itself by right-clicking any item and selecting Customize navigation pane.

For the Start Menu issue, change what's in your current Pictures library to be whatever you want to show up when you click the Pictures link in the Start Menu. Then create a new "Global Pictures" library or something to show off whatever else you want.
