ViperAFK
odd that they have removed directx10 from this game, the first one had it.
+Mystic MVC Posted July 4, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted July 4, 2009 After playing for over an hour today I got a better feel of the game. Sure it has the Call of Juarez game but this really isn't like the last one at all. This is basically on rails as many of people have said. Adding to that, you can turn off auto aim if you have a 360 controller but not when using the keyboard and mouse which makes no sense. I'll still finish the game but I'm pretty disappointed this didn't follow the first one closer.
neoadorable
and don't forget the MP is a joke, you can't play ten minutes without it freezing and/or disconnecting you. Do the words "quality control" mean anything to them?

I just got the first one after playing this and I am incredibly glad they didn't mirror it. it is filled with terrible/frustrating "stealth" and platforming and isn't nearly as good. Death Proof
played the game today for an hour or so , it seemed that the graphics were good but for some reason i felt that something was missing in the gameplay

To everybody their own I guess. The part that differentiated it for me was that you could do it at your own pace.
+Mystic MVC Posted July 4, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted July 4, 2009 I take what I said back earlier. I hadn't got to the part where you can do those side missions in that small town, at least there is that.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2009 I beat the game in 6 hours and 36 minutes or something like that... 47% accuracy, barely found any of the secrets, and had some help from my cousin in laws who were in town and me just letting them play around with one level while they were here (probably destroyed my accuracy LOL). But overall I found it to be a cool game. Entertaining, a nice change of pace from other shooters subject matter, and just a good mix of little things. I never had time to really sit down in one sitting so that is me beating it in small little doses. As such I would say it could probably be beaten in one solid 5 hour sitting. @ mystic - Side missions were not even worth doing to me. I tried three of them and they were just easy and not really much fun, fetch and or just kill everyone missions. Although one of them I did find the bow and arrow hidden on a place only Thomas could get to with his lasso so I got that a bit earlier than I would have, the side missions really did nothing to enhance the game at all... Overall I would say it was good. Not great, not bad, just good. Worth checking out as a rental IMO for sure, just to have some fun. Oh also I went online for a few matches with my boy, and it ran fine for us. Just hated the fact after each match it just kicked everyone out, and there was no party system to speak of, just inviting which did work no problems. MP was much better than I thought it would be though, think it has some potential for sure.
+Mystic MVC Posted July 5, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted July 5, 2009 Just finished it up today as well. My playthrough was longer than Larry's but I did a bit of side tracking every once in a while to find some secrets. Think I ended up in the 30's with finding them and an accuracy of 54% (stupid Gatling gun). Just like the first, I'm glad to have a decent story driving the game with entertaining cut scenes, definitely different than what most of us are used to as of late. I did all of the side missions mainly for the extra cash. I wanted to have all three star weapons and it really paid off once I had my three star rifle. In saying that, I played most of the game as Thomas because of his increased accuracy/range with the rifle. I can't remember how much the side missions panned out in the first game but like Larry said, they didn't do much to enhance the experience; rather provide a last hurtle for you to obtain better weapons. Early on in the game, the enemies dropped little cash and if you found any it was in the $5-$10 range. After most of my weapons had been upgraded half way through the game, everybody started dropping cash, which seemed a little weird (little late too) because the money was worth nothing then. Normally I don't examine plots too much but since I was actually entertained by the first, I paid more attention during this game. Most of the game focused around the medallion and who had it/where it would take us. Unlike the original game, right when you finally learn where it is, the game completely skips to the treasure and you never hear any explanation about why the medallion was so crucial especially when Marisa knew the legend the whole time. I also didn't know if the church setting was supposed to be similar to the first game but then again obviously not. When they found the treasure in the original, they didn't have to go through thousands of pounds of sand in an underground chamber. :p Another note worth mentioning, while this game had a ton of variation in the places you fought (which was awesome), I never had that "ahh" moment like I did in the original right after you climbed that enormous mesa. Overall, they rapped it up nicely syncing Ray's role from this game to the original. Too bad Marisa and Thomas are quickly killed in the original though. :( Had a fun experience but this one was a one time through game for me, nothing else to see. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 6, 2009 DLC announced http://www.vg247.com/2009/07/04/techland-a...bound-in-blood/ Not had a chance to play it myself yet.
Dead_Monkey
Finished the original yesterday. The stealth sections were annoying (particularly grabbing that damn saddle, you can't ride bareback? wtf?). It would be a shame if they removed all of the various mission types in the prequel instead of fixing them though.

+Mystic MVC Posted July 7, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted July 7, 2009 I still can't decide PC or PS3? What are people who have played it say? What kind of monitor/resolution would you be playing with on PC? You can max this game easily on PC and really push the resolution.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 7, 2009 I still can't decide PC or PS3? What are people who have played it say? I would advise PC for one simple fact... The MP is not that bad, and I do imagine more people will be playing the MP on the PC, and also from my understanding the PC version comes with more maps right from the get go. neoadorable
finished it yesterday and not much desire to play it more. the campaign itself is very average, nothing more than shooting action, and not as fluid as others, at that. however, the story and characterizations are well above the norm in the industry, some of the writing and voice acting is downright excellent. the MP is still a joke on the console, constant freezing and disconnects, plus indeed it just throws everyone out when a match ends, you can't just carry on. i don't think this will have a major following past the next couple of months. Even now it's not that easy finding matches. And what's this crap where you have to wait for a match to get full before it starts? i hate that, waste of time. Guest xiphi
I finished it this morning, and I have to say the story and voice acting were really good. In fact, the nearly everything about the single player game is good. Dueling took a bit to get the hang of, though. I plan to play through it again just to see what other things I missed. I recommend anyone who hasn't played this game to do so.
ViperAFK
A dueling tip for anyone with a mouse like the mx518 that has on the fly dpi changing, when a duel starts ramp your dpi to max you can move your hand way quicker and it makes it a lot easier. Boz
I'm still playing the game and I find it very entertaining. Very good story and refreshing after all war/futuristic games. It really felt as a cowboy movie. Loving it.
