Will Microsoft allow Pre-Orders or Windows 7?

don't really see why they would, pretty sure there will be enough copies/digital downloads available. But can't you preorder on Amazone and the likes?

I think xerxis has it right. I doubt Microsoft directly will do pre-orders, but I am quite certain that places like Amazon will do pre-orders

How successful they will be remains to be seen. I do not think there is going to be the same kind of mass migration like there was to Win95 and XP.

I think computer users have gotten "gun shy" so to speak, they will likely wait for a few months and let the few early adopters out there be the free beta testers for Microsoft.

I had contemplated and was actually close to going to Vista when I finally heard about the semi-solid release date of Windows 7.

At this point, I am going to put off the migration to Windows 7 until probably around February/March 2010 timeframe, will wait and see what problems arise.

What kind of problems could arise? Windows 7 RC is stable and runs flawlessly on older systems. I will buy as soon as it releases.

Do you have the RC running on one of your computers?

I am just saying that too often software is released, only for the manufacturer to need to release a patch within a few weeks as bugs start to appear.

When you are talking about an operating system, I will wait for a few months

I think that the title mustt be "Will Microsoft allow Pre-Orders *of* Windows 7?" instead of "Will Microsoft allow Pre-Orders or Windows 7?"

It's not like it's going to sell out. Stifler's right there. But, on the other hand, it may be cheaper on Amazon or something, and people who want it on the day will want to pre-order...But why you'd want to do that I don't know. It's not a game, it's an operating system...

Ncoday,

If you plan to wait to purchase Windows 7 until around the early part of March 2010 then I would encourage you to give the Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) a spin! It is full featured and will not expire until next year -- that's nearly a full year for FREE. To learn more and for direct access to the download center, Microsoft does have a site with whitepapers, tutorials, walkthroughs and screen casts on all the ?under the hood? features in Win 7. Check out the Springboard site for Windows 7 on TechNet here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd361745.aspx

I've been running Windows 7 for months and it is indeed stable and worth the immediate upgrade, from whatever you're using.

if you read any of the windows 7 threads at all then you would know that windows 7 is one of the most stablest OS beta's out there

Microsoft won't do pre orders on their windows products...in my recollection..they never have done that in the past...cause they like the build up to the day of the release.

Thats why you see lines forming at best buys 2 days before a release of something by microsoft.

If you want an early release of Windows 7...my suggestion is...buy a laptop/desktop right around the final month of the official release.

Most computer companies like Dell and Gateway get the OEMs of a new windows product installed on new machines usually a month before the software release.

When it is available on newegg I will order it. When it comes I will install it in place of the build I am currently using, 7232 or whatever else comes along. It's easily the best OS I've used. A no brainer in my opinion.
