Draken
The rumor is out there and every where. Several publications, analysts and forum users claim Microsoft plans to release a 1 terabyte (1,000 GB) hard disk drive for the Xbox 360. The reason? The new Games on Demand service, which will offer both Xbox Originals and classic Xbox 360 titles as digital downloads. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is one the analysts who think Microsoft needs such big hard drive on the Xbox 360 so the Games on Demand service is not held back by current storage options."I don't see the timing between new release and digital download being a function of anything other than hard drive sizes," offered Pachter, speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz. "I think as soon as we have large hard drives - think the rumoured Project Natal 'new' Xbox 360 with a terabyte of storage in 2010 - we'll have day-and-date downloads." Would you pay for a 1TB hard drive in order to start buying downloadable Xbox 360 games that are also available at retail stores? Aero_Rising
bull**** they don't even sell 200 gb ones yet.
Rookas
120GB = $150 so therefore 1024GB = $1279 No thanks!
Brandon
Only if there is a discount on games... even then, no thanks. I tend to buy games way after they are released to get them for cheap
ViperAFK
120GB = $150 so therefore 1024GB = $1279No thanks! haha I just got an xbox arcade because my friend had a spare 20gb drive, I did look at xbox hard drive prices though and was appalled at how ridiculously overpriced they are, and the wireless adapter was even worse, 80 goddamn dollars for that thing! I have just sufficed to hooking my xbox up to my laptop with an ethernet cable to get online, prices for xbox accessories are criminal.

Luis Mazza
If this is true, then it cant be a notebook hard disk. They're limited to 500 gb atm. Otherwise that would really cost a fortune.
Tech Star
Fail. I don't think this will happen anytime soon. With the current prices for their accessories this will be over a couple hundred $$.

And that would mean USB speeds instead of SATA, so I don't believe this one. I could see a 320 or a 500, but not a TB.

Hell-In-A-Handbasket
wish, but doubtfull, why would they jump to 1TB when they could do each 100GB jump and get us for more money
Berserk87
this is definitely BS. theres no way you would fill up a 360 hard drive of a terabyte, on a pc maybe, but why have it twice when you can just stream from your pc. it would also take AGES to fill. there would be new consoles by that time. Sam Symons Veteran Posted June 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 25, 2009 You know, many people dismiss this but somehow I think something similar could happen. Think about it; Microsoft announced full, downloadable games at E3, and a while back the NXE allowed you to copy games to your HDD to make them faster, and the drive quieter. However, games take up a lot of space (obviously) and even though I have an 120GB drive for my 360, the space churns up fast. Microsoft seems to be pushing for a digital download future and by having much larger drives, this'll be possible. Of course, yes, price will definitely be questionable, no doubt. We'll have to see, I guess!
The_Observer
i also think the prices for extra on xbox, wii, are out of this world! im about to get a second xbox360 and only the acarde one. waiting for the new memory with a SD Card slot so i can place a 16Gig card into it! Xerxes
If this is true, then it cant be a notebook hard disk. They're limited to 500 gb atm.Otherwise that would really cost a fortune. Just because it's not available to consumers, doesn't mean it's not available to MS. Although more likely it will be either 2x Laptop 500Gb drives in RAID or just a conventional 1Tb HDD, either way it's going to be large (in both physical size and capacity :p). However, I agree on the comments of it's cost, considering how much it costs for the 120Gb it's will be outlandishly expensive and I doubt anyone would even buy it. You know, many people dismiss this but somehow I think something similar could happen. We'll have to see, I guess! Exactly! it fits in the direction MS is taking the 360. I'd definitely consider it should it turn out to be real, as I could definitely use the extra space :) however, the real make or break on this will be price. If it follows the same pricing as the 120Gb HDD it's a definite deal breaker for me (and many others). Edited June 25, 2009 by Xerxes

Xerxes
GEEZ a 1TB HDD would be expensive as hell Actually 1Tb is pretty damn cheap these days, the problem is how much extra MS is going to slug on the price tag. If MS can keep it within the range most 1Tb USB HDDs go for these days, I'd buy it in a heart beat!

Nonsense. People said the same thing about the Wii and all the downloadable games it offers, yet the limit was reached and Nintendo's solution was to redownload the games whenever you wanted to replay them. Quite a few games are dual layered and I have 12 Xbox games sitting on my entertainment center. Couple this with movie and tv downloads and that 1TB ain't looking so large, but don't be mistaken in that it's not enough, because in most cases, I think it will be plenty. Xerxes
1 TB notebook drive? They don't have to use a notebook drive, it can just be a normal HDD. Since there is most likely not any 1Tb notebook drives around, it will most likely need to be a RAID setup to get the capacity, meaning going for the smaller form factor for space saving is moot as it will be considerable larger in physical stature then the other 360 HDDs regardless of what HDD config they use. Ji@nBing
Complete BS. Even if it were true, I'm sure it would be $400-500 at MS prices. Not something I would be willing to pay...
macrosslover
honestly if this thing is priced anything under $300 then everybody who brought a 120gig harddrive got the major shaft.

I agree, going by their pricing for previous HDDs addons, this drive would be hugely expensive...however, think about it though. MS aren't that stupid, they aren't going to release a HDD addon that costs close to/more then the console itself and expect people to buy it, it's suicide frankly. Considering the addon is going to be large in physical size anyway, they *could* just use a normal 1Tb HDD and sell it at a reasonable price and still make a profit off it, using laptop HDDs in this case holds little benefit as it will most likely need to be a RAID array to get the capacity. That is my assessment of the situation, take with a grain of salt. honestly if this thing is priced anything under $300 then everybody who brought a 120gig harddrive got the major shaft. This always happens, the people who bought the 120Gb HDD will have to accept it. It's like with everything, you buy things at your own risk. I bought a 1Tb external HDD a while ago, you can get the thing for half the price now! they aren't going to keep the price high just to make the people who bought a 120Gb not feel shafted, if they can make it cheaper they will, end of.
