Dunno about the rumour, but it won't be too long until 1TB drives start showing up, even SSD ones :)

Highly doubtful. I don't think we'll ever see something that big on a gaming system for at least another decade.. if that

If people are ok with redownloading full games over and over then maybe a1TB is overkill. But I doubt people wanna do that. Full game d/ls plus full HD movie d/ls will fill up your hdd fast. If people think 1TB is too much or overkill, they need to think again. If you start d/ling games and 1080p movies/tv shows it won't take that long to fill. Though it also does depend on compression for the movies as well.

Streaming the movies is an option if you have a fast enough connection, but games? I doubt that'll work at this stage.

1TB in 2011 makes a bit more sense, but a 320 or 500GB for later this year or early next doesn't sound that far off to me.

Well the reasoning is there (Games on Demand), but it's quite a big jump from their current offerings. I might have to pick one up if they put it at a good price.

*crosses fingers*

The new HDD wouldn't necessarily have to attach to the 360 like the current model. They could use a conventional 3.5 and encase it in a platform that would attach to the bottom of the 360 with a side piece to connect it to the existing input. This would make the unit a bit wider and thicker, but thats not a bad trade off. In fact, it would prolly help the airflow in that configuration.

MS seriously needs to re-evaluate what they charge for accessories though. I need the wireless adapter, but I sure as hell won't pay nearly $100 for 5yr old tech!

Why this big? I have a PS3 and my 60GB is almost full, but I've installed a bunch of demos on it and never uninstalled them.

Are they planning on selling 1080p movies and full games by any luck?

That's exactly what they've been doing and will be extending

Lots of people talk about a good price, what size to price equivalent do most of you have in mind anyways?

Like, me, anything $200 or more for a bigger HDD is not a buy, regardless of total size. But I'm fine with paying the said $150 the 120GB goes for now for at least a 320GB or bigger drive.

If they wanted to sell a lot they'd go with something for $100 though, that'd be even better.

$150 for 120GB? No. Nothing that equals more than $1 per GB.

I just brought back a 500GB external drive from Best Buy in America for $80.

The 1TB external hard drive was $120.

(I'm using externals as they have more pieces/plastic and a container, most comparable to a 360 drive).

I wanted the 1TB but couldn't afford it, I had blown most of my dollars by then :p

If the price was right then yes I would buy it tomorrow if it came out. Why can it not be like the old XBox or PS3 and just use a standard drive.

I guess we will never know this generation. I just hope MS make sure that drives are cheaper or use standard PC drives in the next console generation.

I bet the next Xbox will come with a standard built-in SSD. My guess is for a 32GB one for starters though that'd be at the least depending on when the new Xbox will come out. But they'll still have the option of adding an external unit like the 360 has now and keep selling HDDs of bigger sizes.

Lots of money is made off of accessories, that's not going to change.

I can see this being planned for the next Xbox, but not the 360.

If MS wants to boost goodwill as a counter to a PS3 price cut, they'd cut the price on the HDs.

Unless MS allow more unsigned content to be stored (Movies and music without DRM etc) to be transferred and stored then 1tb will be major overkill.

you know what im thinking... is it possible to set up a Steam-style distribution where everything you download is encrypted in some way... but in this case, the xbox360 would download the whole library overnight or something, it will be in one big encrypted file, and everyone will have this same file... or maybe incomplete copies of that file if they didnt get to finish downloading it, but if the content they have just paid for happens to already be in that file, they will get access to it as quickly as it takes to do the decryption...

I can't imagine enough people use their console as their main media center to justify using a USB port up on an external. Even with an extra USB brick attached.

something, which again seems unlikely

another possibility of it is that you could take advantage of the portability of the external drive... i'd imagine that the games have something equivalent to a software license that says that you can only install it on one machine at a time, or something like that... but on console games, that would probably become you can only play it on one console at a time, possibly even if its not yours... so you could take your downloaded games with you to your friend's 360... doing stuff like signing into your account on your friends 360 and waiting for your games to download to his console just doesnt sound right.... also all your games on discs could be loaded onto the hard disk so you wouldnt have to carry the disks with you as well... i'd imagine that would make pretty good use of the 1TB ...

Or they'll probably just cut the price of the 3 SKU's as well before Sony gets a chance to, steal their thunder. If the 120GB does see a price cut then it's a pretty much sure thing that a bigger HDD is on the way at the old price of $150 imo.

How about they just let us plug in any old USB external drive? I'd definitely consider using the Games on Demand service if I didn't have to pony up a couple hundred bucks for a hard drive first.

Security risk, plus external drives have to be formatted in FAT32. FAT32 won't store files larger than 4GB.

Sony and MS use proprietary file systems on their internal hard drives.

Ah, then it makes sense... I'm not an Xbox user and it shows...

It's still too big IMO but at least there's a purpose
