Invision Power Board 3.0 has been released.

Recommended Posts

Today marks the official release of Invision Power Board 3.0.

I'm just curious... Does Neowin intend to upgrade the board to 3.0 in the near future, such as within the next couple of months or so? Or will the management prefer to wait for a few point releases? I'm asking because 3.0 is a very nice release, and I think it has greatly improved upon the 2.x series. I've been using it since the public beta and am very surprised at how stable the final release has been.

My best educated guess would be that it is on one of the servers here already and being examined, and retrofitted. From my understanding this version that we are using now on here is so highly customized that they can't blindly patch what they have with a new version out of the box. :)

Do not expect an update any time soon. There are features missing in the first 3.0 release that neowin uses it (features they removed from 3.x that were in 2.x, and will be added back in the future).

I figured you'd wait a while.

But out of curiosity, what features were removed in 3.x that were in 2.x? Certainly the CSS and templating system is different, but I'm looking through the 3.0 ACP right now and I don't seem to remember anything missing.

For one, the subscription service is missing at the moment.

IPB3 is horrid... too flashy. Surely you just need a forum to be a forum?

What's so flashy about it? You do know it's fully customizable, right? You can strip out the tables, images, everything.

IPB 3 is also much more CSS-based than any previous version of the software, making it much better in terms of skinning.

That's a rather big omission, any idea why? :/

I read some posts, and it seems it was flawed and will be improved in time for 3.1.

Don't know about 3.1 but maybe 3.0.1.

Anyways IIRC IPS hopes to have the Subs Manager ready for customer testing this week. After Matt has it released then I believe it's going to go Community Based after that.

Version 3.0.2 is released. And it would be nice to see one of the largest IP.Board hosted forum upgrade to the latest release.

Birger :)

Why? I don't think there's any rush for Neowin to upgrade. Nothing wrong with the site as it is that will be solved by IPB3.

The mobile site for iPhone is busted, rumors say v.3 will fix that

I'm typing on the mobile skin right now with an iPhone 3G. There's nothing wrong with it

Yea, the mobile site is perfectly fine on my iPhone 3G too.

Shame there is no 'Latest Forum Activity' section. Forces me to view the 'classic'/standard Neowin Forum to see it.
