Update From Vista Oem To Win7 Using Upgrade Disk?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to do a clean install of Win7 using the upgrade disk? Also will I be able to use the upgrade disk if I own the OEM version of Vista Home Premium? Sorry I wasn't sure what forum to put this in. How did it work with the Vista upgrade disks?

You should definitely be able to do the upgrade with an OEM copy of Vista. You do own vista, and could always install the oem version and then upgrade to 7 when it's released.

Vista had a little trick/quirk (whatever you wanna call it) that you could do a clean install by booting off the disc and install by not using a product key/activating. After it was installed you would do the upgrade install from within your fresh install of vista, this time using your key and activating. Not sure if you can do this in 7 and I haven't tried.

I think he could upgrade. Upgrade versions require a previous version on windows in order to upgrade. you CAN clean install on an upgrade version but must have the OEM version to get by the previous version scan

You can do a clean install with upgrade media without installing twice like vista. The only difference between upgrade media and full media seems to only be the number of PCs you can install it on.

You should be able to upgrade your computer to Windows 7 without any issues as you do have a valid license to Windows Vista, which was provided by your computer manufacturer (OEM).
