+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted July 10, 2009 Sethos is right, some day 1 issues can be expected, maybe some glitches needing patched, a bug or a few, but total downtime of servers and ridiculous lag for days? We shouldn't be expecting that from big named developers, not on the scale we keep getting it, nearly every single big anticipated title, without fail. Seeing as it's a trend with console devs these days, they need to do bloody beta tests of their MP components MONTHS before hand. There's the Uncharted 2 beta, it had matchmaking issues when it came out, as far as I'm aware they were tweaked then fixed, better they happen months before the release in the beta, than day 1. But of course you get the Socom beta that was ****ed in beta, then still ****ed on release. I have no idea if it's sloppy coding, developers cutting corners, or developers trying to reduce costs as much as possible by putting up the "bare minimum" backbone, that inevitably dies on it's arse when they go "oh hey our highly anticipated game was actually bought a lot?!" imagine that!". Or it could just be volume of traffic, but that's what a beta is for, stress testing. Half these games come out so buggy and glitch ridden or with absolutely ass netcode you seriously do wonder wtf Q&A departments are getting paid for. To stick their privates in each others soda? And FTR I'm usually one to defend devs and say give them a chance, it's day 1, but it's getting beyond a joke, they need to try and adapt and become more efficient instead of this constantly happening. This ain't 1990, there's people with home broadband connections almost fast enough to single handily host a server (probably are).

+Mystic MVC Posted July 10, 2009 MVC Share Posted July 10, 2009 Audio I agree that what you described is a problem but as people have said, this game's multiplayer is no broken. Even for those that have posted problems in here, they have said once they get in the game it is fine. I'll be getting the game tonight so I'll report if my experiencing getting into a game is as easy as last night.

+Mystic MVC Posted July 10, 2009 MVC Share Posted July 10, 2009 We weren't discussing broken multiplayer but server issues. I understood Audio's first sentence as talking about server and multiplayer issues. Either way, there hasn't been complete failure for the BF1943 multiplayer just slight hindrances for some people getting into matches. I didn't think it was going to blow up into a thread about the whole scene of multiplayer for today's games.
Sethos
He's talking about what to expect and not to expect from big developers and used some general examples. "Slight hindrances" is perhaps a mild way of putting the issues the game has had so far regarding server issues.

The only server issue is some people have to click join game several times before they get in. That issue is a hindrance, not a game breaker or whatever you are trying to push. A gamebreaker wouldn't allow thousands/millions to be playing right now regardless.
Sethos
Dude, you have seriously failed to grasp the point of the discussion and point made - Nobody is talking about a broken game, just severe server issues followed up by BS excuses caused by lack of testing and the usual cheapskate business. Also, the issues have been more severe than that and you know it. The servers are slowly coming back to life but the issues have been pretty bad. A hindrance would be a few connection issues for an hour or two.

Even though the majority of people posting in this topic haven't had problems. With the number of people sucessfully playing, this issue has been a hindrance to some. "Slowly coming back to life" isn't how I would describe my experience with the game so far. Sorry but I won't budge on that one.

I actually sat and quoted TONS of replies regarding server issues and lag from release up until now and it didn't allow me to post it due to size. Read the thread and you will see, the majority have had problems. For Neowin comments, it's actually some of the worst I've seen in a long time regarding amount of comments in such a short amount of time.

This ain't 1990, there's people with home broadband connections almost fast enough to single handily host a server (probably are). I wonder if the issues are more with Live/PSN? Two years ago, NCAA 08 was a pain to play. You would get connection errors, disconnects, SERIOUS lag. I'll be they have the same issues next week with NCAA 10. Maybe it has something to do with EA? I don't know. I came home from work this morning and tried to get a game or two in and never connected. Like DICE said, it's nothing client side, my connection is as clean as it is going to get. And as I stated previously, it wouldn't be TOO bad if the game was specifically designed to be played online! That's the rub with me. Other games that have MP issues, usually I don't mind waiting it out because there is a SP component - but when you design a game that is MP only (and one that I can't ever return or sell) you better make sure the damn thing works. I might as well have put $15 into the memory card port of my 360 and just watched it grow.

I went to page 13 and so basically from mid day when it was released and saw a majority of good comments. The bad comments near the start of the topic (mainly from three people) were near the exact time when you could get the game. If you don't expect something at the exact time it is available for download to be overloaded for an hour or two, then think again. From page 13 on it is very positive so I'm sorry we are ignoring that. If you are trying to compare the problems to something like Gears of War 2, then please move on, this is nothing close to that. I'll be on later tonight but I'm sure my post will have no value...
Sethos
El oh El - Guess this is pointless when people are this blind and ignorant and fail to grasp the core of the argument in the first place  By the way, Page 13 is from TODAY, 2 days after release. Moving on. Oh and well said soLoredd.

Oh and well said soLoredd. Oh please. You are talking about server issues and so am I. I am saying people are able to get into games regardless of your so called server issues and you say I'm not talking about what you want. Then we starting talking about joining games/server issues, I make a reply to your post (about people having problems) but then you say I'm not talking about server issues. I really don't get you. The core of the argument was about server issues in general for today's games and I mentioned that in post at 16:05 before you said I was getting off topic but then I got berated regardless... DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 11, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 11, 2009 @Sethos, what demos are you downloading for weeks? Hell not even the crappy PSN servers take that long. habnad
Yup Munky I forgot just how much plain fun these BF games can be. I'll hopefully be on later as well...maybe they'll have this whole server mess worked out by then.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 11, 2009 Just to put in my .02 cents, today was the first day I could even connect myself. Two days into launch and that is unacceptable IMHO. All major games have issues on Day 1 launch, all of them do, but to be what is three days in now, and me and the people in my party are able to play but not with each other because now we can randomly connect on our own but now the friends option to play is also not working, honestly that is just **** poor handling of a game launch. At least thats my opinion. So I did finally get to play as stated, and first off was great playing with you guys again in spirit at least. I was able to join munky games in progress, and the other two guys on our list where in their own game, so we got to talk among each other while playing, but as I said above would have been great if we could have all been in the same game together. A few quick impressions. LOVE The fact that not much has changed in the core game-play at all since Bad Company. It plays and looks the same and that is just as expected. I did not expect it to, but I am glad it did not change. It also felt great revisiting these classic maps. They do seem a tad different than I remember them to be, it is strange I cannot quite put my finger on it, but overall they bring back very good memories. HATE While it is cool and I understand the fact there are the three classes, I really miss ranking up and unlocking new weapons. It has been that way since BF2, and that was a major appeal to me of the series. Like I said, I understand, it is a "Arcade" version, and also this way it is an even playing field for all, but I can see me getting tired of it a bit quicker than normal because of the fact there is nothing to unlock. Wish somehow they could have introduced that aspect but still keep an even playing field, honestly like they always have as you could just pick up dropped kits, so yeah, kind of not crazy that is how it is all set up. So gonna try and hop on a bit later tonight myself, but not sure I def will be.
Ji@nBing
I was finally able to get in with the demo. Seems great for an XBLA game. I'll be picking this up once I grab some points.
ViperAFK
I don't think they anticipated how popular the game would actually be. When you're in a game there isn't any lag, it's just hard to connect. At first it was like this for me but now I can get into games but its laggy lol.
