mattmatik
Got in about 4 rounds before work. Had fun but the people I played with were all over the place. I captured about 3 flags and all for nothing as nobody helped to defend them. I think I prefer modern weapons like in BC but for a quick fix it's a great game. Hopefully DICE gets everything figured out, it took me 5 attempts to get into a game. One other gripe: I hate being Michael Phelps and having to swim to shore. Players jump in boats and just take off by their lonesome. Kind of lame.
Ayepecks
Yeah, I'd say like a lot of great online games, the biggest problem is the users. Alas, that's gaming.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 12, 2009 So is there any type of squad system? Meaning the only way I see to be part of a squad is those few rare times so far I could group with a few friends and join and we are a squad... Or if you join solo is that just it and you are on your own? I honestly could not see how to join a squad easily when I was able to get on those times I was able to connect by myself... kalam_
Just downloaded the trial and I get a nice "Failed to connect to EA online" error when I try to play. Is it a problem with the trial, or does EA just fail at everything they attempt?

If I recall correctly, when I got into a game it asked to join a squad or join first open squad. I always do first open because I've yet to play with anyone I know, so I figure it doesn't matter. But then at random I will be out of the squad altogether. Hahaha, I'm not sure how it works. If anyone sees me on give me a holler.

LOL Go figure, could be because of the other issues that aspect is not ironed out just yet. Main reason I was asking is squads are absolutely crucial IMO to make it a great game, as otherwise it more or less deteriorates into nothing more than a glorified death match with the ability to get some extra points running from flag to flag, which is IMO not what the series is all about. +Mystic MVC Posted July 12, 2009 MVC Share Posted July 12, 2009 DL we definitely should have played with you, we needed one more for our squad. Played with a group of two other guys tonight and we just rocked the game for three hours. We had a great time. Playing with a squad is the way to go because you can spawn where your squad mates are which makes the game a million times easier. It really multiples the fun. Yeah that's how Bad Company is as well. When you get into a good squad, the game takes on a whole new feel (which is how '43 is feeling). Squads were solid in BF2 as well but didn't feel as "crucial" to enjoying the game, in my opinion. I don't think that will stop me from playing the hell out of it though :D I do prefer the Gold Rush mode. At least if you get in a free for all group you can still make headway. With the bases thing it makes games feel more hectic and chaotic. At least in gold rush you knew your specific task (attack or defend). NoLiMiT06
Just got done doing a 3 hour stretch and it was a lot of fun even though I averaged 5-10 kills a match :) BTW the squad feature worked for me as well...
Miuku.
Having tested it now and holy mary - I want my keyboard and mouse back. Even though I ranked as numero uno in kills (by far) in every match, I'm still crying over the slow aiming. Waa :( Perhaps I should dig up BF2 and play it on the PeeCee for a while. Chicane-UK Veteran Posted July 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 12, 2009 This is my only problem with FPS games on the Xbox 360 and why my Xbox 360 just doesn't get used as much. Control pads for this kind of game are just agonizing! :(
what
It could just be that I just came back from vacation so my mind is a bit cloudy and I'm a bit tired, but the game feels a bit chaotic to me. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason for anything going on. I haven't found people using the mics with the exception of one game and there doesn't seem to be much coordination or attempt by the game, itself, to coordinate players. Everyone is using the Party feature these days. It's a lot more fun talking to your friends, even if you aren't in the same game, than listening to some child screaming various obscenities down the line. This is my only problem with FPS games on the Xbox 360 and why my Xbox 360 just doesn't get used as much. Control pads for this kind of game are just agonizing! :( Fine here. All it takes is practice, I really don't see what the issue is.
Mr_Edwardo
Can someone explain the squads to me? I'm a bit confused. Is is a kind of "clan" thing in which I'll follow all the members through whatever games they're in? And how exactly do I join one?

I don't even go into games without being in a party mode with friends. We get into games, talk to each other and rock it. It's totally awesome experience with a bunch of other players, you just don't necessarily listen to them, which is a blessing.
DrCheese
This has been absolutely perfect on the PS3 so far, I've never not been able to play. It's a shame that they somehow managed to mess it up on the 360. It's a good game but playing on the same kind of maps is a little boring, I wish they had made this into a full game with all the maps from the original. what
Can someone explain the squads to me? I'm a bit confused. Is is a kind of "clan" thing in which I'll follow all the members through whatever games they're in? And how exactly do I join one? When you first enter a game you'll be given a choice of pressing A to join the game as a lone wolf, or B to either join an open squad (i.e. if there is a squad with slots available) or create your own if there aren't any. As a squad you'll earn additional points for doing things to help your squad mates, and you'll be able to spawn on your squad (as opposed to a flag) so you won't have to keep running for miles to get back to the frontline. I believe they keep squads the same on each server, but you can leave yours and join another via the pause menu.

Please everyone I know who has a 360 has had problems since the game came out. Things are a lot better now however. The PS3 version seemed to launch without a hitch. This might be because everyone who is playing is doing it on the 360 version.
mattmatik
Has there been word from DICE as far as future support for the game in terms of maps or new modes? My first inclination would be that they won't be doing future support but they obviously didn't know how popular the game would be, either. It would be cool to get a couple of maps or a mode around September to refresh the game and keep it running until BC2. Also, do you guys see more developers doing this: i.e. releasing MP components over XBLA? Or maybe something like Modern Warfare 2 releases and then 6 months later they release a game using the same engine but purely MP based.
