What are some good 360 games I should get?

Recommended Posts

Well I have some cash too blow (around $120) and I'm looking for some 360 games.

I've looked around and haven't been able to find much so I'm asking here.

I liked Halo 1 and Halo 3, as well as Halo Wars, and I really loved Portal, Bioshock was fun, Didn't like Fallout 3.

The games I was thinking of getting are Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls, Blue Dragon and C&C Tiberium Wars, but I don't know much about any of them except Elder Scrolls.

I know my taste in games is a bit strange, so any recommendations?

Get Mass Effect and the Elder Scrolls, skip Blue Dragon and Tiberium Wars.

Japanese RPGs this generation so far have been a massive let down, some absolutely terrible. I've yet to see what Tales of Vesperia is like, I've heard it's one of the half decent ones, I couldn't play Star Ocean 4 due to the absolutely evil voice acting.

Get Beautiful KAtamari and some stuff to smoke ... ;) and you'll be happy.

srsly, you can't go wrong with Mass Effect and Oblivion mate.

If you didn't like Fallout 3, I can't see you liking Oblivion (I just got done with Oblivion, which was decent, I found Fallout 3 to be far superior and much more enjoyable). Mass Effect is similar in style (FPS + RPG), but it's not nearly as in depth as Fallout 3 or Oblivion. C&C Tiberium Wars wasn't that great, especially the controls. My neighbor had that and then played Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3, and he said that one or both had a much more intuitive interface.

I've been reading that Knights of the Old Republic 2 is good, could I play it without having played the first one?

Yeah, but it's not as good as the first.

It really depends. I can't seem to get into Fallout 3, and I've tried to do so several times. On the other hand, I played through Oblivion at least twice, doing all the side quests and such, and it's by far one of my favorite RPGs.

How does oblivion generally play? A lot of skills like pickpocketing used a lot? Bad load times? Is there any quick travel? Is there a Max carried items? I'm thinking I'll get Mass Effect and Oblivion.

I'm the same, I've tried countless times to finish Fallout 3, even got it for the PC for all the mods, but I just haven't been able to. I should love the game, but I don't know what it is, I just prefer The Elder Scrolls.

I think it might be the setting, the drabness, the atmosphere. They are spot on for the type of story Fallout 3 is going for, but something in me must prefer the lore and setting around a fantasy like game like The Elder Scrolls more :p

Which is why I hope I see The next Elder Scrolls game before a new Fallout. Don't get me wrong I agree Fallout 3 should have the praise/reviews it has, but it's just not the game for me it seems.

^ Well they are working on it, but you'll see Fallout New Vegas and Brink first. Although they aren't developing either game, a new FO will still be here before TES. New Vegas is out sometime next year.

A valid point. I kind of forced myself into continuing Oblivion. The setting for each are vastly different and I think I'm growing tired of games based in a fantasy setting.

Depends how you decide to play. There are full questlines for the thieves guild and assassins guild which give you a lot of opportunities to be sneaky, pick pockets and locks, poison arrows (collect components and mix your own  :sorcerer:) and engage in headshotting while concealed :shiftyninja: (backstab bonus!) for massive damage.

All 360 games can be installed to the hard drive. I've not noticed particularly severe load times with it installed to the drive, but then, I dealt with it before you could install to drive. There is full quick travel to any discovered location, with the exception that you can't quicktravel at certain times (when in combat, when taking damage (spoiler here, so I won't detail at what point you can take damage when not in combat)). There is a strength based burden system, not an item limit or volume limit, there are spells and items that can increase your capacity to carry stuff as well as directly modify your strength which increases your ability to carry items.

I've put over a thousand hours into Oblivion at this point I would say...between about a dozen characters, including at least three play throughs of all of the major questlines and two completions of the Shivering Isles. Get the Game of the Year edition if you do buy it, as it has all the DLC content on it (maybe not Shivering Isles?)

It is an exceptionally large and flexible game. If you're not threatened by the potential to be distracted for hours or days at a time, you'll really enjoy it. Some people like more directed activities in their free time though.

I'm pretty sure now that I'll get Oblivion now, and might buy Mass Effect in the future.

As much as I love Oblivion, I'd probably do it the other way around (I love ME as well).

ME while it has secondary quests basically makes you do the good/important ones along it's timeline (all the extra planet stuff is pretty dire). Oblivion though is a complete time sink for quests, it's a faaaaaaaaaar more open world RPG than ME and will take you longer to complete.

Even if you did everything in Mass Effect (combed every planet), you would still only put in about 50 hours (I've also finished Mass Effect six times, I was unemployed for a while).

However, if you stick to the main quest in Oblivion, and to the main quest in Mass Effect, you might even be able to finish Oblivion first, because of the level scaling. You're going to need to be around level 40 to finish ME, but you could technically finish Oblivion at around level 3 to 5.

I like them both, but I'd buy Oblivion any time I was given a choice between those two. The mainline and side quests have a lot more variability in them than Mass Effect does (shoot guys, talk to person, shoot guys, land on planet, shoot guys, drive around, talk to person).

To answer the same questions that were about Oblivion for Mass Effect:

Mass Effect generally plays like a third person shooter (more shootery than KoToR, but basically the same in terms of how force powers and specials work). No pickpocketing, but there is a decryption minigame (simon) that you'll play over and over again. Pretty terrible load times. Even when you have it installed to the hard drive, there are unavoidable lengthy sequences in elevators that will probably annoy you. There's no quick travel (except between planets). There is a maximum carried items limit that you will hit, and it might annoy you. Edited by Dead_Monkey
