Slacker
Hello all; From what I understand, spotlight is supposed to be able to search remote macs just as it does with locally attached drives. But I'm having difficulty in doing this I have two macs: Powerbook G4 running OS X 10.5.7 (fresh install of mac OS) Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.7 (brand new computer) I have my documents folder shared on the macbook and mounted on the powerbook. I have no problem reading, writing, access this folder or opening the files inside of this folder. From a finder window I can search the contents of this shared folder However, I cannot use spotlight (from the menu bar) to search for things on this shared folder. I have repaired permissions on both computers. I hope that I'm not expecting too much from spotlight, but I would like to be able to search for files in this shared folder just as I can search for local files. I hope that someone can give me some clues about what might be going on. Thanks much.
thefarewellnote
Spotlight through the menubar won't search other computers from my understanding But generally, you can search other computer by using the Cmd-F Finder search and setting the location to Servers (or computer name). You can search for normal Finder info (Name, Last Modified, etc) but not on index based metadata and content. Hope that helps
