LOC Veteran Posted July 1, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 1, 2009 That's right folks, the day is finally (almost) here. The highly anticipated Source total conversion NEOTOKYO? is set to release on July 3, 2009. Some helpful release information is as follows (along with the official trailer for your viewing pleasure).Neotokyo will be available for download at various sites and torrent. - Download links will be released in our irc #neotokyo on gamesurge network during our release party. Then posted here and elsewhere. - This first public release will contain 10 maps total ...all capture the ghost gametype. - We recommend max 24 player slots. (9v9 to 12v12 are best as far as gameplay and flow). 32 players is fun but a bit spammy. - Total size of the installer is about 900megs and unzipped is 2gigs. - In order to run NEOTOKYO, you need to have any game that gives you the source sdk base installed. deletedxyz
I just read your post and felt indifferent. I then visited the official website and my jaw dropped. As a huge Ghost in the Shell fan who enjoyed Jinroh: Wolf Brigade and the Half Life 2 series, I can't wait to try this mod out. Here's more about the mod plot wise: NEOTOKYO takes place about 30-40 years from now in a Japan that has drifted into social/political strife due to the inevitable stresses that come from changing times. The Japanese government is grappling with intensified external (Asia geopolitics) and internal (economic/social) problems, and there is mounting pressure from within Japan to return to the days when it exerted influence through military power and strength. A failed legislative push to alter the Japanese Constitution (allowing the Japanese military to engage in offensive actions outside of the country) leads to an attempted military coup by members of Japan's armed forces (GSDF). The coup fails, but was very close to succeeding. In an effort to suppress further coup attempts, Japan's Prime Minister forms a branch inside the Interior Ministry's National Security Forces (NSF) called GROUP SIX. They answer directly to the Prime Minister and are sworn to protect the Japanese Constitution at all costs. They immediately begin to hear rumours of a rogue element of the GSDF Special Forces (JINRAI) maneuvering for a second coup attempt. These JINRAI are Special Operations Group 43 (SOG43), fierce nationalist loyal to their love of country, and a desire to put Japan back into a position of strength and power. LOC Veteran Posted July 2, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2009 Hmmm, guess I should have posted more in my original post. The reason I didn't is because I figured most HL2 players would have known and heard and seen Neotokyo by now considering it's one of, if not the most anticipated mod coming out. Either way, it's an amazing looking mod. And carmatic mentioned the music is awesome. They got a guy who did a full on orchestral soundtrack for it (digitally done of course) and it sounds terrific. The different "view" modes you get in game look great and really change the way you play (like seeing through smoke, seeing body heat, seeing distortions in sound etc). Good stuff :)
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2009 That looks really good for an HL2 mod. I'm definitely gonna give it a try. (Y)

Slammers
The camera angles and editing of the trailer make the game look alot allot better then what it's actually gonna be. Doesn't look that special too me. Pretty good art/gfx for a mod though.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2009 You never know until you try. I'm going to sleep now but I expect you people to post multiple download links. ;)
Berserk87
the trailer looks awesome, but it seems like its just going to be some skins and new maps for half life 2 deathmatch. which im fine with if it gets people playing, and its not a laggy POS like hl2 deathmatch is right now. LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2009 Actually, almost every texture in this mod is custom made (not saying you won't see HL2 textures or the infamous HL2 beep beep beeeeeeeeep when you die lol) not to mention the gun sounds are amazing, along with the music as you can hear. The guy who did the soundtrack is quite talented. Either way, I watched like, 5 episodes of the GiTS saga yesterday and this morning to get myself in the mood. I even love how the gametype they have in the game is called "Capture the Ghost" hehehehe.
