CONFIRMED: Windows 7 To RTM July 13th

Recommended Posts

Through our sources close to Microsoft, we can now confirm that the Windows 7 RTM build that will be chosen over the next few days will be officially signed off on July 13th, 2009, the same day as the WPC09 (Worldwide Partner Conference) will take place in New Orleans.

As I just mentioned, Microsoft is still in the process of testing and choosing from the RTM candidate builds as they need to ensure that all show-stopper bugs present in the OS have been eradicated to ensure as much of a smooth, bug-free release as possible. TechNet, MSDN, and other partner connections will be getting their hands on the RTM build shortly after, if not on the same day.

Ever since many got to experience Windows 7 with many of it?s new features and performance improvements particularly with 6801 and Rafael?s Blue Badge tool, most fell in love with the OS. Stay tuned for our in-depth Inside Windows 7 series, which will highlight and discuss many of 7?s improvements over Vista, along with our RTM build review complete with benchmarks once the build surfaces on TechSource:e: GeekSmack

I just wish they would allow it for pay to download for the hard core geeks shortly after and yes I don't mean the technet and the rest of those.

I'm sure it would help lower their costs too, bandwidth is cheaper than pressing a ton of DVDs, and downloading is more convenient for many.

Me, too. But I already preordered one that'll ship in October.

Still, I'd be tempted to buy an upgrade for the same price online and get it sooner rather than later.

RTM IS Final, but at this stage it's only given out to the PC manufacturers and other partners/people with TechNet/MSDN subscriptions, while it will hit the GA (general availability) stage on October 22nd, which is when it will hit store shelves.

Can anyone tell me whats the difference between RTM and Final?

Nothing. The RTM build is the final build.

RTM is the final, it's the "Release To Manufacturing" version :)

RTM is the same as RTFM but without the swear word.

Also how the hell is this a "confirmed" story, when there is NO confirmation by microsoft themselves. Confirmed means confirmed, i.e. microsoft comes out and confirms the story, not some wannabe tech site saying they've heard its confirmed

if one is a beta tester for m$, they may opt to offer those a free version of win 7 rtm. i was offered this for vista. besides you can buy and download the final version.

I love how you use M$ and free in the same sentence. Classy.

Anyone want to start a pool as to how long it'll take to leak after it shows up on TechNet?

I've got 0-5 minutes.

Next contestant......

It is Technet, though. :p

Vista beta testers who submitted at least one report were given a free copy of Vista Ultimate. I wouldn't expect the same for Windows 7 due to the nature of its development cycle.

No, no final date on that yet but it'll be shortly after or on the same day that the RTM is announced on July 13th :)

I'll ask around though.

This doesn't mean it's confirmed. I don't see a confirmation anywhere.

Will the version we can buy in stores be updated more (with patches) then the RTM? Since there will be months in between.

Any patches between RTM and GA will be 0-day updates on WU.

This is great news. Finally, I'll use Windows 7. I haven't used any of the beta or RC builds, leaked or otherwise. :D
